Tried to book a week off to go abroad mid next month , one other person is off for two of the requested days. The reason the one person thing exists is because my work are picky when it comes to employing people and we are woefully understaffed. Am I in the wrong for being angry , even offering to do one of those holiday days remote is not good enough.
Month: August 2023
I'm thinking of starting a small business, even during this recession/inflation hell period. Is this a stupid idea? My thought is, with a little fire under my butt, I could be making way more for myself than if I continue to work for other people. I'm working two jobs, one as a bartender one as a tutor. Both for companies that don't give me enough hours and when I do get a check, obviously taxes make it to where I can barely say I'm full time employed. I've got multiple degrees from a reputable institution… the pandemic hit a year and a half after I graduated college. I toughed it out in the world during the entirety of the pandemic and realized after it all died down that the economy was shit, so I moved back in with my parents. I'm currently working on my data science certification so that…
I’ll try to keep the details simple. I was approved to move 200 miles away from our main office to work remotely. As long as I come back to the main office a few times a year, there’s been no issue. Recently, there’s been a lot of changes in the company and now they want people to come back to the main office. I am a supervisor, and I do my job pretty well from home: my team is productive and our clients are happy. It also helps me to keep my mental health and sanity. I have other admin responsibilities and projects. With these new changes, I did not find out about them, until my new supervisor told me, and there’s been such a lack of communication with the entire team of what’s happening. Now all the responsibilities I had with my admin work or being taken over by…
For context, my birthday is tomorrow and I requested tomorrow and the following days off to visit my father for my birthday. I haven’t been on our online schedule for 2 weeks as we are scheduled two weeks. Yesterday at 11pm my boss emailed me that he accidentally didn’t put me on the on-line schedule and he expects me to be there from 6pm-2am. Obviously I have many things to do the day before I leave for a trip. I’m very anxious about it. My boss is abusive often with swings of emotion and vague threats like “are we clear?” At the end of his messages and emails. I’ve got a lot of other family issues going on as well, I’ve worked the last 6 days in a row, my grandmother is very sick and today is the last day I can see her before I leave. Looking for any…
1099 employee at a retail store
ok so i’ve recently picked up a part time job at a local boutique. only problem is my boss has me on as a 1099 employee, but i’m treated as just a. standard retail employee. i’m expected to open the store, clean, organize and work the register all day. am i miss classified? she zelles me $17/hr.
Some guidance
So….. I’ve worked at my job for almost 7 years. I’m a veteran and it was the first job I got when I got out. It’s retail…… shoes. I work in the shoe department. I used to like it but in the past 6 months it’s become unbearable. The store manager is a sarcastic petty prick, who’s no help in any situation what so ever. Customers are….. either they’re nice or they’re Karen’s. That I can kinda deal with. What I cannot deal with for much longer is the new scheduling system. We have this app that allows us to make our availability on the go. Either it’s permanent or it’s for that week. I put in my availability that I’m “not available” to work on Sundays and Mondays. This week I was scheduled to work Monday (today) and I’ve been telling managers for the past couple weeks “hey that…
Filling employment gap on resume
Which one is better to fill a 1+ year gap on a resume – say I was freelancing for multiple clients – say I worked for a real giant big company abroad (my friend is currently working there) Thank you
Calling References Without Permission
A perspective employer emailed to update me on their timeline for hiring, and mentioned they were just in the process of calling references for me. I had not provided any references and immediately got a bad feeling. I am currently pursuing wrongful termination with my last employer, and especially don't want them to have any information on my movements. I responded asking specifically that nobody contact my last employer, which hopefully went without saying as they were aware of my situation. I also supplied 3 of my preferred references. I find out today that they continued to contact people outside of what I provided. They contacted a supervisor at one of my previous jobs, even though he wasn't my supervisor, and I had provided them with my supervisor as a reference. It makes me not want to work with them, but as time ticks on and I still have no…
