Work reform/worker’s rights podcasts?

Does anyone have any recommendations for podcasts on this topic? Not ones advocating for no work, just ones advocating for fair labor practices and fair pay.

Asking for a raise after 7 months

Been working at a pharmacy with post office in it for 7 months. Was hired as a post office clerk because I had a lot of experience in that role and manager included that I’d be expected to work as a cashier for the store as well since the two counters are connected. I was hired at $20/hr because of previous experience. Since then I’ve taken over the role of manager of the post office since the previous one has retired. On top of that I’ve had to take on every single role in the store since it’s a small store and we’re short staffed. I’ve even been tasked with ordering stock from the manufacturer for the store which I don’t really see being a part of a cashier’s job but I took it on regardless. Tbh I think I bring more value than my coworkers who’ve been here for…

ONTARIO LANDSCAPING

am aware of the no overtime, however are they able to force me to work 13-14 hour days? We work mon-friday so basicly i am being forced to work overtime hours without the overtime pay? I wish i was able to request wednesday off or something to just lighten my load just a little. In the interview i said i was looking for full time and honestly really only available for 10 hours daily, he said it was an “anomoly” the first few days working these hours but i havent seen an early day yet, i wake up at 5 am and usually get home around 8pm and quite honestly getting fed up and only have been here about 3 weeks. I dont have much money to be quitting right now, but i feel so drained that at this point in my life i would rather be homeless getting some…

“The pays might be a day late”

“We're switching payroll software, and we've hit some problems but it's no big deal. We'll get the pays out tomorrow, or maybe Wednesday.” This from my wife's boss. I am so damn sick of hearing this sort of shit from people who have obviously never lived paycheck to paycheck. Never had bills set to come out of the account the day after pay day. I had this happen to me years ago when I was working as a barista at a brand new Cafe. Turns out the owner had expanded way too quickly, overcommitted to too many new cafe's, and had no money to pay his staff. Meanwhile, I had a 6 month old baby to feed, rent to pay, and a wife desperately trying to get back into the workforce. I also had a bank that charged $15 for every automatic payment that failed, every time it failed. They…

I’m just feel so Done

So i'm Currently 29, and have been working my ass off a since i was 18, and before that i volunteered for a charity for about 5 years with a little bit of overlap. I was always taught that if you work hard then you will be rewarded and until a few years ago i believed it, My first job was great, it was a card shop that was part of a bigger company and i enjoyed it, my confidence grew and within 4 years i was running the store as a supervisor, my pay was Ok and i liked the people i worked with. the trouble is that due to some price increases (That i was heavily against as we had competition literally across from us) we started making less money and we were the only store open eventually, re branded into a clearance store for the larger company.…

What are the niche jobs that are out there that help you survive?

I’m a railroader that makes sure that construction workers aren’t hit by a train. The official title is “flagman” and the pay for it is astounding. The caveat though is that you’re away from home 90% of the time. So definitely isn’t made for everyone who values a home life. However; most people have never heard of this position before unless you’ve been apart of the railroad industry. What is the niche of your field that no one would know about unless they were in it? Mine is considered entry position with some companies.

Am I being over bearing for a dollar or is my GM a penny pincher?

(Alt/old account I made it at a poopy time in my life) I work in technology manufacturing, specifically a contracted company for the US's biggest semiconductor producer. My coworkers make a dollar more than all while doing the same job. One of said coworkers, C, is a new trainee I've taken over because our shift lead had to take a sudden leave (I think for family). My other coworker, D, is a few years older than me and I knew he made a dollar more but I was generally okay with it cause of his age and we have the same certification. But this new guy? He's younger than me (not by much) and doesn't have a cert like me and D do. Hell he doesn't even want to be in this industry. C's dad works in another part of the floor and I think ushered him in so he'd…

Everything is so expensive I can’t see my self being able to live comfortably in the future

I am 19 entering my sophomore year of college at a decent university. Through scholarships my tuition is about 14k a year. I don’t have a major selected yet and have no idea what I’m going to select, so I’m just doing required classes rn. I don’t know if this is the right route bc everything seems so expensive. While at school I work at a retail store 20 hours a week making 16 an hour with Ma taxes. I wonder if going into a trade or something would be smarter but to be honest I have no idea what career path with bring in money. I don’t wanna waste my time in college if I could be doing better somewhere else. Houses, rent and cars are all so unaffordable where I live the future seems grim. The way the worlds going the idea of jobs, college, rent, and money…
