Been working in British Columbia for a water management company for two years stationed in the lower mainland. Been receiving Living out Allowance for just over a year under the direction from the general manager that I could finish the project and rent a crew house to be compensated for. ( have text proof ) They decided on Thursday during my days off, we work 23on, 5 off l, that I was going to be moved to a project over 1,000 Km away on Monday without LoA pay. I refused and they aren’t putting me back onto the original mainland project. They have three projects here and have went through two hundred employees while I stayed loyal and continued to work for them. Where do I stand legally on this matter ?
Month: August 2023
Walked out of Sam’s Club yesterday
I started working for Sam's club in June, and during my interview in May i told the team lead interviewing me I needed time off in August for mandatory school obligations, which i feel is more than enough notice. Come August I tell my manager I've been having trouble with getting my days off approved, and he tells me personal leaves go through our coach which has been denying it, and I have to figure out how to figure out work in-between those days, which mind you I will be away from morning to night every day. Later they pull me into the office upstairs and tell me they can't work with my new school schedule, and claimed I told them I only had online classes, when I told them it was one online class and two in person. Infuriated, I worked for about half an hour after that and…
So I failed my PIP. If you look at my post history, I've been talking about non-stop since I've been placed on it. I started job-hunting halfway through, which I think was a big mistake. I asked the internal HR if I could have an exit interview after my departure. They said yes, but not with any of the staff, just HR. Kind of disappointing, because I did want to have a meaningful discussion with some of my leaders. Not to shit on them, but for more advice as I move on. I had issues with communication and coordination while I was working on my PIP. I would complete my work on time, and I would ask people to prepare more work, so I would have something to do the next day. If they had nothing, I would utilize my time to study and check my work. But this was…
Time off is not a request
If you, an employee, need to be off the schedule for any amount of time or will not be available for a certain shift, you should not have to use the word “request”. It’s about the most ridiculous unnecessary vernacular that I can think of. I tell the employees that I supervise/schedule “we don’t have time off requests, we have scheduling notices. If you need to not be on the schedule for any reason at all, please give me heads up at least two weeks out. I don’t care what it’s for, it’s not my business. If I mess up and schedule you, that’s on me.” I don’t understand the entitlement that so many employers out there have.
A person I know hired me after I was laid off. The job pays good but he is very toxic. I think knowing this he made someone else my boss But this person didn’t hire me and doesn’t want me. I don’t know what I’m saying or asking for but this is another clear example of work sucking ass
To start off so I don't get downvoted into oblivion, I'm a small business owner ( always under 7 employees) in Canada Tldr; small business have to reduce staff and shut down cause of the overwhelming cost of existing and can't support their community I grew up in the town I live in, and haven't been able to buy a house as a business owner, so instead I decided to focus on building my companies and giving jobs that paid better than average to support my community. The last two years during covid were good to my businesses, allowed us to grow from 1 employee to 7. I tried to go above and beyond for my staff, paying 5$ over area wages, salaries to keep them employed during the slow months, really good Healthcare… But this year, things are dropping while the prices of everything are growing. I've had to…
What’s the point of a week notice?
I gave notice as I believe I should have for the past 2 corporate employers as I feel you should. Both have not let me work out my notice and on the following Monday after my notice on Friday I've had my employment closed out.. what gives? .
HR saying more than they should?
I'm applying for a license, and had to fill out an employment verification form and give it to a company I worked for a year and a half ago. HR employee 1 wrote that I had a write up documented in the company, and I know HR is only supposed to confirm dates you worked and that you actually worked there. The license auditor asked about it, and I had to give a statement. When I called the company HR to make sure my recollection of the write up was correct, HR employee 2 was very concerned for how the auditor knew about the write up, and I told her about the employment verification form. HR employee 1 no longer works for the company, I assume she quit in between when she filled out the form and today. Employee 2 reported that she would go through IT to find the…
I work full time 40-50 hours a week as a department assistant manager at a retail store making over $15 a hour and my end of year is around 30k. With all of this and giving basically everyday of my life almost all day I still can't get anywhere or afford anything. Thanks to the state saying I make to much to have health insurance health insurance and car insurance alone is costing me over 500 a month. I'm being forced to pay $500 to live in a room. I can't save anything, with the current housing market everything is out of reach. What's the point anymore? I'm stuck. I'm tired of living life like this.
Hey all. I'm switching jobs and my employer has caught on. I found out they didn't pay out vacation days when someone leaves, so I started taking as many as I could. They cornered me in to saying I was planning on leaving at some point. Now I requested off another day and my manager calls me and says any further days I take off, I have to pay them back if I leave. Are they allowed to do this? I don't remember signing any agreement that would bind me to this. Edit: I am salaried, had 8 vacation days roll over from last year and have 3 days left.
