Used “quiet answer” to sexist remark

Today I used quiet answer to colleague's remark. I've had enough. I'm not here to listen to their sexist shi*, nor to “laugh it off”. It was about looking under my skirt. And the silence was too much…for another female colleague. She laughed it off, and told me that's a joke, don't I have sense for humor? Like what? Now she's taking his part? I didn't answered her question either. I just looked at her in suprise. For those, who read my older posts: no, it wasn't the same guy who tried to grope me. Still old sexist fart though.

Blue-Collar and White-Collar Workers Unite

Every region is different (for the record I’m in Western Canada) but I’m fascinated by the attitudes and political positions I have seen among (some of my) friends and acquaintances in office jobs versus trades and construction versus service work versus even the self-employed. I have a broad array of working experience and while I primarily work in an office now (I use the word primarily because I do some moonlighting beyond my full-time job), I’ve spent a lot of time in manual labour and service work. Here is what I think we need to learn from each other. White-collar workers: We need to understand we’re not future executive vice presidents in charge of sales, we’re part of the working class and our 40k salary is going to increase, at best, in small increments if we don’t marshal our collective labour power. Thoughts of a key to the executive washroom…

I got overpaid on my last check

I work a project based job.. I don't have my stub just yet but I think the president of the company paid me for a bit of a project that I was already paid during this current round of checks. I already was paid for half of it, I think he got confused and paid me for all of it. Should I say something? Or just kinda keep half of it for a while and start using it when no one says anything about it?

Fired for Disability

A little long but I need help. My manager told me I have been taken off the schedule for being too sick. Last week, I left early because I was vommitting. I discussed with my manager that it would be best to take a few days off to ensure I’m not contagious. I am battling Severe Chrons disease, this is my disability and it does cause me to vomit frequently. They were aware of my disability upon hiring and I have been there almost 2 years, restaurant setting. I have asked for several reasonable accommodations and was denied. ( No mornings due to morning sickness, coming in early to get off earlier, breaks yo sit and rest, and have been denied bathroom breaks and receive no breaks as they are not required by law in any state. My manager told me I had been removed from the schedule because I…

Layoff at my company

I am working a in-between job as a security guard. My boss asked me if I wanted to work all week 3 to 11. Well I jumped on it. One the first day they told me there was a layoff and they wanted me drive the car that has security on the side and park it in front of an exit for 20 minutes and then move on to the next exit. They wanted people to know security was on the job. As the days passed more and more of the story was coming out. The CEO wanted to make the company more profitable. I checked the stock of the company and they were already doing well. They were whacking long term employees. A couple department head got it. One guy started with them when he was in high school. He was planning to retire in September and he would…

Boss creates no time off rule

Long time lurker, first time poster here. So I have been working in a fine dining restaurant for a little under a year. I've had my gripes here and there, but the money was worth it. Recently however, the General Manager has been going on a bit of a rampage, and pointing out every single thing we do that is not to his liking. Which i can excuse some of it, because we are an upper scale restaurant. However, I've seen this man straight up yell at people for forgetting to place down certain plates and silverware for a guest. Then suddenly, this past weekend he tells us that we cannot request off up to 12 weeks in advance. This got everyone angry understandably. I even heard my friend say that he requested off 4 months in advance for an event and it was denied because the manager said he…

Can my work tell me I can’t use my work truck off work hours.

Utah, USA I rent my truck from my work. I am on an I-9 and have to do my own taxes because of that. So I pay for my vehicle, I pay for my own gas, and all expenses related except insurance and maintenance. Are they allowed to tell me when I can and can’t use my vehicle. Be it going camping, running errands, or a simple grocery store run (my personal car is tiny so it’s better to get supplies in a truck) I agree with them to a point. It makes total sense why I cannot. If it comes down to an accident off work hours or such. But at the same time I compare it to renting a home and not being allowed to sleep there for 2 days a week. ——- I’d also love to know what the laws or rules are if I should wonder…

Interviewing is Soul Crushing and Waste of Everyone’s Time

So I recently discovered I am severely underpaid for my position at my current employer. It seems weird to say discovered, but I never really understood how much you should make in this position. Recently my family has grown by two, with the recent addition of twins, So I started branching out and looking to see if I could make a bit better. I haven't really job searched since before COVID and I'm not really sure what changed but the interview process of experienced is just pure unadulterated soul crushing waste of time. I've had several interviews now where they put me through a battery of interviews, I'm talking three to four interviews per application. I remember previously the most I ever had was maybe two interviews for a position. It is the worst feeling in the world, making it through three interviews, having each interviewer seemingly excited to talk…

I wish money wasn’t everything…

Long time lurker. Long story short I'm two dirty vodka martinis in on a Monday. I work for an anti money laundering company (client based) and make 58k a year, and it wasn't a bad day today, not by any means. But I started playing hogwarts legacy and I absolutely love (spoiler) where you can breed and take care of the magical beasts (unicorns, hipporgrifs, large purple toads). It got me thinking how if I didn't need the money, I would be taking care of horses right now. Boy I know how hard back braking work it can be but I would love to be working with animals, specifically horses. I think I would enjoy all farm animals honestly. The feeling from playing this game alone and seeing the made up baby unicorn play around makes me happy, so much so that I wish I could do it for real….but…
