Currently employed but I like to keep an eye on the market to see what shit show I would be in for should I no longer be employed. LinkedIn advertisement for a Administrator, 35 hours a week 9am-5pm in office (no option WFH). Boasts about 'competitive salary' and a list as long as your arm about 'great benefits'. The salary? 21,000.00 GBP per year. Around £1500.00 take home a month, that's not including any pension contributions cos who can afford to retire anyway? Scrap your benefits and pay your staff a liveable wage!! How can they genuinely expect any decent applicants when they are paying sweet F all! This country is a joke.

I'm 25. I have my own 2 bedroom place and a car. I pay my way, I don't have debt, I'm responsible in the areas I need to be. Work constantly treats me like a child and it's really ruining my mental stability, to the point it's directly affecting everyone at work. I constantly check my phone for the time, because I just hate being there and our clock doesn't work. For that, I am constantly accused of texting and getting reprimanded every other day. I use the bathroom “too frequently” that it's basically become a workplace joke, I drink a lot of coffee because my sleep is becoming such an issue that I'm waking up hours ahead of time without falling back to sleep and being awake for 18+ hours straight, daily. Of course, I'm gonna pee a few times in a day. It's somewhat been implied that I'm…
I’m an electrician for a big tech company in an industrial setting. I was monitoring contractors today and saw them step on a 480V busway wearing a harness strapped to a metal structure that was not fit to hold him safely about 25ft in the air. My supervisors said it was not okay. My coworkers said it was not okay. I called my supervisor twice, and when I finally got ahold of him and told him the situation he told me to get them down. Do not let them work like this because ‘safety is not first, it is always’ After the initial ‘you’re not in trouble’ talk, my coworkers all berated me for ‘slowing business down’ and saying our management team was ‘pissed’ and I likely had signed my termination papers by not allowing contractors to put their lives in jeopardy. I was trained to always think of safety…
Little back story, we both work for a small data company and we are both data analysts. He was moved over to this new team about 4 months ago doing something brand new for a new client we had acquired. The work they gave him was stuff most analysts won't touch until their second year of employment. His new lead confirmed this for him and said he should be fine. Few weeks in and he hates it because his lead is condescending and rude when they talk in person or over teams (I read some of the messages and she came off very rude). During this time, he created procedures on something he'd never done before (out of his scope) and when he did the work he got some quality check feedback saying he is messing up a bit but the mistakes aren't grave, its just a couple of typos…
Currently my “manager” is out of office for a foreseeable time so i report to two manager (i mainly work with manager 1). The other manager (mgr2) just grilled me for following the instruction give to me by manager 1, we have meeting about this topic with the director tomorrow so i am not sure what will happen tomorrow. I am prepared for the worst, but i wish my original nal manager was here to at least defend for me.
Boss trying to underpay me
I live in the uk, ive been at a job (part time 0 hour contract) for about 6 months now, today when signing my time sheet i saw that my “boss” had edited the previous day to say that i turned up 30 minutes after the time i actually turned up without contacting me. I edited it back to the correct hours and left a note for them to message me before they edit next time. What else should i do in this situation? Run for the hills? This isn't the first time.
My partners manager at a fast food place (I know right, big surprise) denied their time off for moving. This request was put in over a month ago and they waited till 2 weeks left to deny it. Needless to say they still won't be going into work.
I don't know how to feel about this. I'm grateful that people thought about me, but at the same time I don't like being the center of attention. I feel guilty that literally less than 24 hrs from now I might have another job.
On a road trip and stopped at a Starbucks; when I paid with a card the tip screen did not show and I asked why. An employee said that because they unionized this store, Starbucks management took away their ability to receive credit card tips. I’m baffled by this, honestly. How is this even possible? Has anyone else heard of this happening at other locations or similar businesses?
