‘How are people affording to live?’

WE'RE NOT!!!!!!!! WE AREN'T LIVING!!!!!!!!!! This is barely surviving and you want to know how I LIVE? As if you don't know the answer? What we're all going through right now? That's what they want. That's capitalism working as intended. Stop asking that question, because what you're actually asking is 'is this normal? are we supposed to be suffering like this? should it be this hard?' and the answer is no. so get angry and get out there

Partner about to get fired for disability

We’ll start with the short version: my girlfriend has a zoom meeting today with HR that they scheduled with her manager (who let her know) but has yet to notify her. HR has been threatening to let her go due to absenteeism, which nobody in the store has complained about, and she responded that it’s due to her disability. The company was bought out by a large corporation, so they asked her to resubmit an accommodations request. This was weeks ago, and this is the first she’s heard from them since. Now the longer version: as I mentioned, the store was bought out by a large corporation recently. It used to be a family owned, single location high end jewelry and Rolex store. She works back office and officially she’s the watchmakers assistant, but since they’re understaffed she’s basically everyone’s assistant and does a bit of everything, even making a…

How to not give a shit?

As the title said, those of you not giving a shit about anything at work, how do you do it? I have colleagues that are untouchable. The computer breaks? Just send a ticket and look at the wall for 3 hours. Can't meet the deadline? Well, It was impossible to meet. Office AC going from Sahara to North Pole 7 times a day. Not even a comment. Get in, ask about the weekend, sit in front of a screen doing absolute horseshit for 8 hours, maybe a couple meeting in the middle where you don't contribute at all. Pack your stuff and go home. All this with a smile on their face like it's a grand day! I want whatever these people take.

Giving sensitive information with consent but no safeguards

My wife signed up for a work app. In the application she had to send a picture of her ID and social security card. Then they had to have it verified by “someone she trusts” and sent me an email with a full photo copy of documents with nothing redacted. Of course they had legalese saying if I used that info in bad faith they're not responsible. I know contracts that violate laws aren't enforceable and I'm not looking to sue them I just want her to be more careful. So if anyone is an attorney, who is right? Me or the company? I'm in Florida just to be clear.

“…the needs of the company are more important than the needs of the staff.”

Had a meeting today at work where they acknowledged that we're short-staffed, burnt out, and need to just bear through it and be a “team.” The final thing my boss said in that meeting was that she prioritizes the needs of the company over the needs of the staff. So basically, we can all just go F ourselves? Employee morale is at an all-time low, but it's fine!!! The company doesn't need staff, right? Eta: I work in healthcare, so the company is quite literally nothing without its staff.

Discussing pay with co-workers

I work for a credit union and they remind us frequently that we are not to discuss pay with co-workers. It is against the credit union policy. However, I can’t seem to find it in our employee handbook. It seems this is illegal. Are there any exceptions to this rule? Job is in Tennessee for reference.

Accepted an internship that begins next week but already being emailed a bunch of tasks.

I was hired as a design/social media intern for one of the departments at my college and my start date is next week, I haven't even filled out I-9 paperwork and my future supervisor is already emailing me tasks to complete before my start date. WTF? Red flag or what? I really need this gig for financial reasons and they're working around my class schedule, but I'm nervous that this is a harbinger of things to come.
