Tired of parallelizing

The phrase “in parallel” has been thrown around more than ever since WFH got started. Every time my team is faced with more projects than we can handle, my boss chimes in with, “Why not just do these all in parallel?” or “Can't you just do it asynchronously.” He's convinced that this method will allow us to work on many things at the same time, thereby increasing productivity and shorten the projects. Every one of these projects inevitably goes longer than he expects. Worse, the expectation seems to be expanding into every aspect of our roles: on-call duties, bug fixes, meetings, and the list goes on. Apparently, everything should be done “async” and 'in parallel” nowadays. Constant context switching is just terrible for software development and I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience?

What’s with the focus on $100k posts?

Honestly I’m getting tired and p*ssed off that most of the content I see on here isn’t antiwork anymore. It’s only about 6-figure incomes or JuSt LeAvE the US. I can’t do either! My spouse and I work long hours and bring in $70k together. I CAN’T move to another country because they only take healthy people. Can we get back to discussing ways to screw bad management and terrible jobs!! Please?

Small paint store being sold to bigger paint store owners. Not sure how this impacts me as an employee.

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place, but I'm hoping I could some advice or insight to maybe how others handled a similar situation… I'm on my phone not sure if that matters. Ok, I work at a paint store where the owner only has 1 store and they have decided they are going to sale their store to another framchisee who has multiple stores throughout the region (Washington, oregon, idaho), I live in Washington if that matters… I make a decent hourly rate for being in retail. I guess my concern is with new ownership could they come in and reduce my hourly wage? I'm not sure what rights I have as just an employee who is caught in the middle of this transition. Anyone have experience with this type of situation or have some advice to help better protect myself would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I keep getting micromanaged while dealing with stressful situations outside of work and it’s really getting to me.

First off, yes, I'm actively looking for a new job. This shit is not worth what I'm making right now. I work in a small office where the majority of the people either know each other really well or are related so it's definitely a cliquey dynamic. Didn't really give a shit until now. This is my first job outside of retail/customer service and I've been doing this a little over a year and a half. It's been really challenging learning everything especially since my brain is riddled with ADHD, and sometimes there's still some things that I don't quite understand and sometimes I do have to ask the same question or ask about a process I've already done a few times to make sure I'm doing it correctly. My boss knows this and told me from the get go that she understands because her son also has ADHD so…

Getting pushed out of my company

Had a meeting with my manager and HR yesterday and they said that someone complained about my service dog barking and that it’s a distraction to the office. Keep in mind he let out one singular bark once and I told him to stop and he did. Hes not a robot, mistakes are made but he listened right away. I was told my two options are to either a. Take short term leave or b. Quit because he’s become a disruption. They fought me so hard when I originally requested him for reasonable accommodation a few months ago, I feel like they were just waiting for an opportunity to take that away from me. This office has someone that blares music every day, people who make loud personal calls at their desks, the janitor vacuuming during work hours (when people are taking customer calls) yet that one bark is where…

Job told me to go after I witnessed my friend have a seizure

I have been wanting to quit my job for a while, but now I'm ready to leave. I was on a video chat with my friend who is across country and he had a full blown tonic/clonic seizure. I was the only one who knew what happened and his location. I then called my manager to say I couldn't come in because I was in shock and rightly worried about my friend and she forced me to go in saying that everyone would be upset. I then called in to the actual location and they said to take the time off. I barely work 12 hours in 2 weeks and I think this is the straw that broke the camel's back…. am I wrong for wanting to leave?

Recent experience with an IT contract job that continuously got reduced

So, this just happened to me. I got hired for an IT contract position for a data migration job. Originally when I applied it was supposed to only go for 8 days (drug test and paperwork on my part, no big deal for me). After doing the drug test I was told it was now only 3 days, and that there was a meeting to go over what was needed, and that the meeting was paid for, and okay, fine, less money, but kinda desperate in this moment and the position itself was very close. The guy in charge of the meeting and the project absolutely came across as an asshole and provided no way to get in contact with him. Now here's the fun part, I get told that I will only be doing data wipes and no migrations, but I reconfirmed with my recruiter that this is still…

Job offer rescinded, rant

I applied for another in-company position, after going above and beyond for this company for the last couple years now. The position is a slightly higher labor grade, so I considered it a slight promotion, though the initial wage that my supervisor had given me was kind of low. I expressed that, and he came back with another verbal offer the next day, which I told him I would likely accept, after having a chance to talk about it with my wife. Today comes around, and I talk to my manager and my supervisor about the position, I was expecting a written offer. Instead I am told that the position isn't actually going to be hired for yet, and they decided to hold off for the moment. What is the point of going through all of that process just to pull it all away at the absolute last second? My…
