How to survive work?

Kinda posting this as half asking for advice and half a vent? Idk. I can't figure out how to work a job without constantly wanting to off myself. Working at Fed-ex rn to move out to leave an abusive situation, but the work itself feels fucking impossible. I'm super weak and the rate of the packages coming down the shoot is insanely fast to me and I've already had multiple panic attacks in front of managers. I know most of the other people who come here quit within a week (everyone who works here is usually the one person who makes it through orientation out of groups of 10- myself included now after a month), but I still feel like a failure. Though it's not specific to this line of work or anything, I used to work at kroger and I felt just as suicidal there lmao. Getting screamed at…

My mother who owns a house and decent car, and has a 6 figure job, thinks if she lost all of those today, she’d get them back and work for them with no problem.

I genuinely cannot believe her. It’s like she’s still living in the 80s and 90s. I tried telling her that it’s much different now because college is expensive (her degree was cheap and got her a well paying job) homes are expensive, rent is expensive, most jobs are shit and won’t pay very well, healthcare is expensive, and you need to pay a lot of money to maintain a car (You need a car in America. Good luck walking). She said to me that there are programs for those people and that people just aren’t working hard enough. Ironically she’s also against those programs and believes hard work is a panacea. I tried being understanding with her because she didn’t grow up as a gen z young adult who has to pay more for those things. But she literally cannot and doesn’t want to understand what it’s like. Of course…

Atheist friend went to company meeting for work and is thinking about complaining.

I got this text from a friend of mine and I asked if I could post it here for them. “So, scenario. Your company decides to have their quarterly meeting at a nearby Pentacostal Church in a little city in Alabama. This church just happens to be your childhood church. You haven't been there for 23 years, and when you walk in, not a great deal has changed, so memories flood in. Now, not only are you in a church, but your guest speaker that is there is trying to entice you to give to a local charity (United Way, which I already donate), and has a doctorate in ministry. As a motivation coach, he's a really nice guy, but he starts getting “preachy”. He starts singing bits of hymnals, asking us to say Amen, even having us addressing our neighbours, and doing that “holy ghost jerk”. All that said,…

My wife works for a bank ($8bn market cap, $170bn AUM) but gets no maternity leave?

What is the ever-loving hell is this? What kind of company, no less a multi-billion dollar public company gives their employees ZERO maternity leave? She’s a vice president (like every other moderately senior employee) so not an hourly line employee, massive tenure, etc. Is this at all common?

I hated my bosses. They accused me of not working – so I didn’t work.

I over explain a lot so apologies. TL;DR at the bottom. This happened a couple months ago. For context, I'm 19. As part of a post-highschool employment program I've worked in a corporate services department. I've rotated between many of the teams, but this one frustrated me the most. Partway through my employment I lost my rental in the city of my work's office and had to move 2 hours back home. As such I moved to a full-time WFH schedule, which was agreed upon by my manager, supervisor, and director for this team. For a span of about a month, our internet at home was very temperamental. Our modem needed replacing, so having too many devices connected at once would kick some off. So between 3&5 I wouldn't have a secure internet connection as all my sisters would come home from school & their devices would connect, and my…

Anyone else notice theyre treated better the more they make?

I've worked at many jobs in all different industries and the less I made the more I was micromanaged, given more work than physically possible to complete and overall treated worse. The concept of expecting more from 'Low/Entry level' workers baffles me. People are so quick to say workers earning minimum wage are lazy and don't want to do the hard jobs but those were the hardest jobs I had.

Ad on Facebook about article against working from home

Just saw an ad on Facebook for an article on “The Economist” that states: ” The working-from-home illusion fades. It is not more productive than being in an office, after all” They are even putting it on ads now.

This system is making people suicidal

One of my family members has started mentioning suicide because of the poverty we’re living in. Her workplace started making her fire people, and she can’t cope with that. She just cries and drinks all the time. I’m getting her help, but this system is so miserable. We both have degrees and did everything “right.” This has gotten so out of hand. I barely have any money and I still lend it out to my friends and family because they can’t buy food or new work clothes. Just a rant to commiserate with everyone.

Working to death

I work 2 jobs. Job 1 pays me $10/hrs and Job 2 pays $9. I'm usually at job 1 at 11am until 6pm about 5-6 days a week and Job 2 straight after I get off. Im off from both on Sundays but its safe to say I'm entirely burnt out. After some quick math I've realized I work about 62 hours a week and only make about $2330 before taxes with no benefits. I feel like I'm exhausting myself for nothing all my money goes to food and bills. I just feel hopeless. I recently applied to join national guard because at least I'll get some benefits and some discounts for being military. I'm honestly hoping I can go full time and get a better job with them. Hell I've even considered going army just so I can get free food and shelter. My birthday is next week and…

Automatic Leave of Absence

Apparently during Covid my Fortune 500 company changed policy; previously we could accrue something like 6 weeks of sick time. Any LOA was voluntary. During Covid, I took 2 weeks to recover (unplanned) from hernia surgery. After the dust settled, it seems my company put me in Leave of Absence state for one week (the 2nd week) as per (new) company policy. I am paid maybe 60% from some LOA money pool and they charge me COBRA rate for health Ins, (another 40% ?) . So that's a nice kick in the ass when I'm sick. So, basically accrued sick time is shit now; nothing over 40 hrs consecutive. So now if I see I have around 60, I just call in sick.
