Just chewed out for giving my resignation, how do make through the 4 week notice period ?

So I work for a small company two people who report to a board…we are understaffed. I gave my notice cause I got a 20% raise someplace else and my boss was pissed because we have a big project coming up and the timing is bad and then called me out for taking leave for my new baby. Gosh, they didn't need to be happy about it but some tact would be nice.

A managers response to an employee struggling to survive being scheduled 14 hours a week. Disgusting.

The US Federal Reserve says you’re getting paid too much

They said this last year before outright waging a war against the average American worker. If any of you recall my past posts, I’ve been saying this for some time. The federal reserve intentionally went after wages and made it its goal to kill wage increases even while inflation raged on. Now they are reiterating how much they hate the average American: https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/federal-reserve-officials-are-worried-you-re-getting-paid-too-much/ar-AA1fmysP

My boss “figured this was coming” when I said I needed to take a week off for my mental health

I have worked for the same organization for over 7 years. Because of my student loans I need to stay in the non profit sector so I can get (hopefully) Public Service Loan Forgiveness in about 2 years. I started out in a writing focused role and was asked to help out with several different events and boards as they fired people or they quit. I did it. I was moved into a manager role and managed interns and a direct report. I helped an associate in my old role to succeed. All of these people gave me glowing reviews. I managed a cohort of other managers and started one for the associates that reported up to the managers. During COVID I pushed for us to do an anonymous survey and then discuss the issues happening as a team. My director quit. My direct report quit. I continued running events…

“Be careful. It’s a private company” after being fired and not signing severance agreement.

Long story short, I reported sexual harassment of an executive a few months ago and the past few weeks it has been apparent they’re planning to fire me. Well, it finally happened today. They claimed it was due to mandatory layoffs and offered me two weeks severance (insulting) as long as I signed a document that I wouldn’t sue. I told them I was legally advised not to sign (because I was) and they asked for the document back. I said I was legally advised not to give it back (because I was) and they stated it was company property and I legally can’t keep it. After I said it was in my car and I’d get it (it was in my pocket), my HR says to me, “Be careful. It’s a private company.” So my question…what the fuck does that even mean? Is it a thinly veiled threat? Do…

My new co-worker wears a handgun at work and I feel unsafe.

My new coworker wears a handgun at work and seems to be an unstable and angry person. After two weeks working with this person, it’s become clear he is volatile and unstable. I can’t believe my work allows him to have this gun at work. Everyone walks on eggshells around him. Not sure what to do about the situation.

Why is not wanting to advance your career and just do a job well and get paid such a bad thing?

I’m very lucky – I quit the corporate game (working 15+ years in Europe for corporate America, in tech) and now I just have a part time job. I work 20 hours a week and earn just enough to cover my bills. The work isn’t hard or exciting but I don’t care, I went into it wanting to just do the job well and leave it behind when I finish each day. We have career reviews every year and I’m appreciative to be included, but it’s almost as if the management can’t accept that I want to do a good job but no more. I don’t want to progress, I don’t want to look for that next role, I don’t want to mentor or manage others, I’m in my mid 40s, I just want to do this job or something similar til I retire. I pride myself in doing my…

Denied Job because I’m actively trying to join the U.S. Army

As the title hints I am actively trying to find a job while going through the enlistment process. For a new recruit the process has been known to not last as long as someone who has prior service such as myself. According to my recruiter in our area the normal time for a new recruit to go through the enlistment process can be anywhere from 1-4 months normally. Whereas in most cases for prior service he says it has been between 2-6 months. Because of this I decided to try to get a part-time job, because there are no seasonal jobs currently available in my area. Anyways yesterday night I went to interview for a company who in my area is notorious for the, “this interview is just for formality purposes, just by showing up the job is yours if you still want it,” kind of thing if you know…

DIFU by not doing additional work while on call?

Just for some context, last night I was called out for a hot water tank leak at one of the buildings I service. When I got there, I found it was a leak on the hot water side pipe, which was out of my scope, so we had to call a plumber to come and fix it. Long story short, I was there for 4 hours as I waited for the plumber to repair the pipe. He had to run back and forth for parts because certain places were out of stock, hence why it took so long. My time was filled by waiting, watching, and being on my phone. This morning, I was talking to the lead engineer and he told me that he wouldn't have done that and found more work to do while waiting. He also stated he wasn't saying I SHOULDN'T have done it, but it's…

Minimum viable products

Backstory: I make 40% less than the market for my job, as I took this gig and figured I’d work hard then ask for a raise. Monday: Our “leader” had joined our team meeting this week to tell us about “financial hardships” at the university where I work. She makes ~$150k prior to her part she was talking in the meeting about how her job this week is to take some leaders to some performing arts festival in town. Fast forward to the part where she speaks about the financial hardship. She tells us the place I work has made a financial decision to stop contributing to 403bs next year, will halt cost of living increases, raises & they aren’t hiring for a number of positions. Considering there really isn’t a future here I’ve decided to bring an amazing insight to the office. Product design. I’m now going to be…
