Under qualified teammates getting promotions I was told I’d get….

Not even sure this is the right place to post but I need to vent. So for context – I’ve been at my employer just shy of 5 years. I feel I was just shafted by my boss and it’s bothering me. My boss promised me 2 years ago “you’ll be going places” (in reference to promotions). 1 year ago we set a plan to make this happen. Any time my boss does a performance review I hear the following for about 10 minutes and then we just talk: we really appreciate what you do, you’ve really stepped up to the plate and helped the team tremendously. We really value you being here. Translation: I’m going to say good things so you don’t argue. Never anything bad, never even “hey this could use some improvement” We hired 3 other IT guys about a year ago. I did the majority of…

Corporate Work Flow Analysis

Does anyone else here think that corporate work flow analysis is a waste of time? Personally I feel like it’s a tool for those in leadership to micromanage their employees. Most the time I end up doing this for my job I never look at it again. And even if I did I like to change the processes up that I use to complete my daily tasks in order to keep feeling productive and fresh. So it ultimately serves no purpose especially if you are in a job that changes constantly.

Video recording remote employees?

I am a process improvement consultant and lately I’ve been getting more and more requests for monitoring remote employees. Some employers want to set up a camera in the employee’s home. The camera would point towards towards the employee’s workstation to ensure the employee was working and not slacking off. It wouldn’t record sound, just video. And it would only record during work hours. Does anyone know if this is legal to do if the employee is informed ahead of time?

Doomer, Autistic, and lazy with a Bachelor’s Degree in Canada. How to get easy WFH Office job?

I live in the Gatineau-Ottawa area and was considering returning to technical school just to try to get more WFH opportunities but is it really necessary? I already have two Bachelor's Degrees (one in Psychology, the other in Education, and in both cases graduated Magna Cum Laude). However I'm actually lazy and was only a good student because I am good at sitting, listening, and studying. I found out that even with exposure, I just won't ever enjoy having to do highly social/demanding jobs. My main work experience was just a contract online grading job during COVID. I liked the flexibility and lack of a commute so much that now I never want to go back. However, when COVID died down, so too did my contracts. Now I'm looking at a 3-year technical school that starts later this month, but as that time approaches I just wonder if I really…

How to handle bitterness and jealousy?

I’ve always been good at making physical things. I studied art in college to become a professional artist, but I never had any success making money with it and have worked in manufacturing for years to pay the bills. With lots of literal sweat, blood, and tears, I’ve advanced along the way, to the point where I’m more so using my mind on a computer rather than breaking my body down doing physical work, but I still only make about 40k a year. My wages have gone up over the years but along side inflation, it’s always been just enough to pay the bills. Meanwhile, my friend works in IT in the big city and just landed a 100k a year job. I’ve never seen him stress about work, and heard him talk about how relaxed it is, and the hobbies he does on the clock with all the down…

Quitting your 9-5 to pursue your goals of being self employed and generating your own wealth income streams – how did or would you do it

Do you go all in and quit your 9-5 or do you look for a temporary work situation that will give you more freedom and time to pursue your dreams? I’m currently debating whether to take a leap of faith or play it safe. But I’m not sure if playing it safe is the way to go either because I imagine doing something this drastic you kind of have to light a fire under your own ass or you’ll keep going with the status quo… What are your thoughts and for those of you who have done it or are planning to – what’s your plan? Thank you!!!

Denied vacation time, what’s my next move

Been with company 15 years have 3 weeks time accrued but no one is allowed to use any with new contracts coming in. After covid 40 percent of the workforce is either retired or laid off and never got replaced so everyone left is picking up the pieces. Do I start looking for a new position and get out dodge or suck it up and wait for a downturn in the schedule to get my time off.

Need Advice – Toxic Work Environment

Hey everyone, I'm not quite sure where to begin so bear with me if this is unorganized or hard to follow as I've never had to deal with a work problem like this. WARNING: WALL OF TEXT AHEAD TL;DR: Wanting to leave a new job I hate with a manager that offers no support, empathy, or coaching but have nothing to fall back on. Context: After working 3.5 years at a job that I liked, I decided to leave because I had not received any promotions in the 3.5 years there, and my wages were still basically non-livable. Had been living with my parents while working this job (from ages 23-27). I had been interviewing for a number of months but still working. I ended up getting a job offer for $15k more per year, but I'd be commuting a lot more. This job definitely comes with a lot more…

Not allowed to have an accomdation because “then we have to let other people do it”

I have some pretty severe psychiatric issues. Ive missed a lot of work because I’m unable to leave the house. I work 100% on the computer and on the phones, this is a job that could 100% be accomadated for a wfh hybrid. I was beginging the process of getting an accomadation to work from home part time (2 days at home/3 days in office) to make it easier on me to have a more structured schedule that is less intensive on me having to be around people. My job told me a very solid no because “then we would have to allow other people to work from home as well.” I feel so incredibly disrespected by this response. They have told me I am one of their best workers, have quality scores in the 90% and have been entrusted with extremely sensitive and high valua projects. I have done…
