Feel-good story about how folks have donated over $400K to a man who got a cheap goodie bag for never missing a day of work in 27 years. Personally, I have a problem with rewarding people who never call in sick. Because you know they worked sick at least one time, and exposed everyone around them.
I’m 25 and this is my second office job, so I’ve never experienced a “real” office, as I have always been a hybrid worker. In both jobs, I would have maybe 2 hours of actual work to do per day. Is this normal, or is this just the industry that I am in?
It doesn’t matter what I do. I’ve worked jobs that were crazy busy and jobs that are ridiculously slow. Currently at one they are so over staffed we literally look at our phones all day. I’ve decided getting paid more is always the better option, but whatever I am paid, it’s not enough to justify the torture. I job hop frequently, but I think I’m trying to escape from work itself.
I'm sure they ran this by a lawyer or two, but is this legal to distribute to employees? They're trying to scare people away from unionizing.
So i got a 2 dollar raise last week and was thinking I'll have an extra 50 bucks in my pocket but come payday. I looked at my after taxes pay and i am only making $6.26 more on my check than i use to. My question is, am i going to get more back on my taxes if my living situation is the same but they are taking more taxes out? I don't see a benefit for me but mostly for uncle sam. My extra 80 dollars a week just turned into 6 bucks a week after taxes. Hoping i get more back since the tax refund has been getting smaller.
First I want to state, I am a hard worker, I try to go above and beyond to a certain extent, but a few years ago I was working so much more without getting paid I drained myself and never will I do that again. I work 0630-1500 (we have to take a mandatory lunch) my team lead works 0700-1630 (he gets every other Friday off though) I work five 8’s. It was 1455 yesterday, I started packing my stuff up (also I was in the office at 0605 so I was already working more than I get paid for. My team lead turns to me and another kid and says “I know you all are done at 1500, but how about staying until 1630” Honestly I laughed….I really thought he was joking, so I said “only if I get paid for it” his response was “well you all are…
So i learnt that a colleague from another department got promoted to a level above me. Yes I'm kinda salty about it because of the nepotism in this organisation. Employers hiring people they like to fill in the positions who then hire other people they like as well. It's a vicious cycle. I like my boss & my team. It's just disappointing that because we are not the ~ favourite department ~ of the upper management even though they rely on us base on the wealth of our experience. It disgusts me now thinking that i have been helping to check this colleague's work so far. I'd get over it but, man. It has always been about who you know. Work “smart”, not work hard, yo.

Long Read – Its more of a sharing, amusing, and venting of situation. Perhaps you will find it funny as well. Full disclosure I came to this job due to the lax job requirements and setting. It is an overnight security guard position. In the process of onboarding I had two conditions for the job: 1) May I bring my computer with me and work on it? 2) May I watch the woods for wild life? The answers were yes. Additionally I would like to point out Security is not glamorous job. Often under paid and the scope of the work isn't always related to security.
