Sorry for the long one. Was working a gig as a production assistant for an out of state non-union photo shoot. Hadn’t don’t non-union in a while but since the strike needed to look elsewhere. Big client and the producer was not good and micro managing. My job was to drive a 15 passenger van from NYC and back each day, along with help out on set and go on runs. First day ends in chaos they end up having to put me in a hotel because my other option was the metro north which they offered to pay for but not travel time (which I would’ve been paid for driving the van). I was fine with the hotel. Come the last day, another fuck up because a pa took an extra set of van keys to one he wasn’t driving, so the van I was supposed to drive couldn’t…
Month: August 2023
Most of the posts here talk about the bad state of work in “first world/rich” countries or areas like the US or Europe. But let's say you live somewhere like Namibia, Colombia or Pakistan that have a more scarce online presence, how are things going for you and your acquaintances?
I work in an office so me being out a day isn't that big of a deal. Especially since I had no meetings today. An hour before I was supposed to be in I texted in that I wasn't feeling well and wouldn't be in. I get a hope you are feeling better text a few hours later. Then in the afternoon I get a text to call him about something I don't support. The text seemed out of place, not his normal way of communication. I wait a few hours then call him back. Turns out he sent that to me by mistake. He then took the opportunity to mention me being off today like it's an inconvenience and in a weird way remind me what day of the week it was. He asked me to look at an email and told him I would tomorrow when I'm in.…
I work in a school as a custodian. I just started in this position recently, so I am still learning and school has not started yet. We have a washer & dryer for cleaning rags, mops, whatever we use to clean the school. There is only one other washer & dryer in the school & it's for the cafeteria. The school nurse asked me to wash some donated clothes that are kept in the office for kids who need a change of clothes for various reasons. I didn't really think twice, it made sense that I would help with that as she should not be expected to bring those clothes home to wash. We just washed some classroom seat covers recently too, so I figured the washer could be used for anything in the school as long as it is no one's personal items. But today I got told by…
Help, job advice needed
Hi all I have a serious question related to my job. I’ve been in a position for about one year and I had a terrible time during that but I stayed to finish out my contract and not be penalized. After my one year I have found two other jobs that seem like better opportunities before I submit my resignation I figured that I’d ask my current job about possibly transferring to another branch that they offer since I have had better experiences at other sites. Mind you I have traveled to several of their other branches covering for people that have either been on vacation or quit. The response I got back was that this is some thing that can be discussed in about a month once the CEO is back from leave. The problem is I don’t have a month to wait. I need to let the jobs…
“so what else can you do for us?”
Had a job interview at a bookstore, longest interview of my life tbh. Guy asks me plenty of questions, very detailed questions, and ends on this beauty: “So what else can you do for us?” I wasn't sure I understood so I asked him to clarify, he said: “what special skills do you have? Could be eletrician, baking, plumbing, anything that can be of service to us” I told him I really didn't know what answer he expected out of me, said “I can lift boxes” and noped out of there as fast as I could. Most obvious red flag I've ever seen. I've had employers try to get me to do out of contract activities but never has anyone had the audacity to outright say it in the interview. Anybody have similar stories happen to them? Or am I alone in this crazy world
skip work.. drag your fat 1 legged friend by the hair.. car pool, put on your stupid inflatable dinosaur suit.. take your therapy cat.. do whatever the fuck you have to do to vote. and make your friends vote.. if not.. just stop.. none of this shit is going to get better and the bare basic minimum first step is fucking voting.
So I've worked at a place for a year, my team of 5 is now just me. They gave me a raise as I have worked hard to pick up the slack and my position changed. I didn't ask for the raise and it came naturally and I'm pleased they recognised me. However, now my supervisor keeps making comments everytime I go to the bathroom/am on my phone etc. It's relatively tongue and cheek from my supervisor but he said that his boss did not want to give me a pay increase and therefore I need to be careful. Sorry to be moaning about getting a raise, I'm truly grateful but don't like the tonal shift it has caused. Anyone else experienced this?
Unbearable no way out
I strongly despise my current job; “hate” doesn't even begin to describe it. It's not the job itself that's unbearable, but rather the management. My boss, an insufferable and self-centered individual, constantly hovers over me. She micro-manages relentlessly, questioning my every move. Instead of asking how I'm doing or if everything is alright, she consistently demands to know what I'm working on. Despite holding two master's degrees in a field closely related to my job, she still doubts my abilities. I'm suffocated, unable to find space to perform my tasks properly due to her constant presence. Adding insult to injury, my compensation is unjustly low. Given the salaries for similar positions in my field, I should be earning at least €10,000 more annually. I'm enduring emotional abuse from this woman, dealing with after-hours emails that demand immediate responses, along with threats of disciplinary actions. This situation is exacerbating my anxiety.…
