Fired FOR BEING SOBER!
So, a little background, I struggled with addiction for 23 years. It started with oral Lortab, over time moved up to intranasal oxycontin, and the end of it was a few years of IV carafentanyl, fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine. It was so hard to get clean, but finally I checked into detox, graduated there and instead of going home I went to an intensive inpatient rehab, graduated there, and immediately checked myself into outpatient treatment. Bc of my history, it's been really hard for me to find a job. After months of looking and several dozen applications I finally get hired at a BBQ restaurant and I busted my ass at that place. The job sucked, the food wasn't great, and I was only making $8/hour but I was happy just to be working. After being there a while I go to go on break and when I walk into…
Anyone with experience – what’s worse?
For anyone who has quit the corporate world, what would you say is worse: slaving it out in corporate America for a job you hate but provides ok pay and benefits or getting out of corporate all together and making ends meet anyway you can figure out?
Lack of respect for interviewees time
I applied for a lead position at a big name amusement park. They rejected me for that position but asked if I was interested in another internal position. I said of course and 2 weeks later I reached out again for an update. I was basically given, “we’ll let you know when we know.” 1.5 months later I reach out again and finally get an answer. However, I must express my concern regarding /theme park/ handling of the situation. It appears unprofessional to reject a candidate for one position, inquire about their interest in another, and then keep them waiting for a month and a half before providing a response. Being a business owner myself I understand the complexities at the corporate level,…
Ridiculous schedule?
Is this crazy or is this just me. I live 45 minutes from work, they want me to work Monday, midnight to 8 am. Tuesday, 7 am – 4pm. Wednesday midnight – 8 am. Thursday 7am – 4pm. Friday midnight – 8 am. So twice a week I’ll get home and have just about 7 hours before I need to be back at work. This just seems ridiculous.
Optics, one of the most despicable realities of corporate America. For those of you who never heard this term before, it means.. pretending to do something that doesn’t matter to prove something to someone that shouldn’t care, but does. Where the quality of your work comes second. So sick of dealing with this type of stuff at all of my jobs – working on the startup route, but a WIP.
