What's up, AW? Just over a month ago I changed jobs. My old one rescinded my WFH and, even with a PT job in the evenings, didn't pay enough for me afford the drive to/from work along with client visits. My new job pays 20% more and I get a company vehicle to drive to/from work and to visit clients. Win win win! One thing that really stung was that the 90 hours of PTO I'd accrued didn't get paid out. I followed up with HR and apparently it's just their policy to not do that. Since I'm pretty settled in to my new role and doing well I figured it's time to post a workplace review. One thing I wanted to mention was how they discourage using PTO at all, in addition to only rolling over 40 hours every year and not allowing buyback or payout. I left them…

I guess I just need to know if other people had to do something this asinine – it really felt like we were worshipping our corporate overloards. My last job was for Prizer-Painter Stove Works, which owns BlueStar and Big Chill appliances. I was in customer service in the parts/warranty dept, and one day we were told we had to come into work wearing our BlueStar shirts / apparel, and in the afternoon we all went out into the warehouse so the director could take a video of all of us waving and saying “Happy Anniversary, [name] and [name]!” to the owners. Maybe it's a normal thing and I just think it was stupid because of the other ways they treated us like garbage, but does anyone else think that's a little bizarre?? It's like something a class of school children would do for their teacher, just left a bad…

So this morning my Manager texted me that he wanted me to jump on a call about an hour before my scheduled start time to talk about an update. Turns out that the update is that I and about 20 other people are being let go. The call was him, myself and the Chief of Staff (not sure what that title means elsewhere but hes kinda the 2nd in command to the CEO, his pitbull). I was told I'll get a box in the mail to send my laptop in and and a note from HR about insurance and a few weeks pay severance, if I sign a document. For no part of this process was HR present. Is that normal? Another former co-worker of mine who got let go in a previous round mentioned she thought this was sketchy. Just wondering what is common practice out there.

Been working for a municipal for several years. Last contract we had to drop banked comp time to 120 hrs and only got 2% raises. And horrible ins. Most ppl in the city simply don't have health insurance. It's 1500 a month for 2 ppl. We constantly lose ppl due to pay and health insurance This year they agreed turnover is a huge issue. Union rep and I planned to aim high and went for a 24% pay increase over 4 years and comp time to 160 and 1 sick day a month. We met in April and gave our list. Shorty after city agreed to everything but some small issues. For last month they have been dragging out signing contract that was suppose to start Aug 1st. 5 days before the contract start they backed out of the deal. They claimed they never checked the budget and can't afford…
