Been working for a municipal for several years. Last contract we had to drop banked comp time to 120 hrs and only got 2% raises. And horrible ins. Most ppl in the city simply don't have health insurance. It's 1500 a month for 2 ppl. We constantly lose ppl due to pay and health insurance This year they agreed turnover is a huge issue. Union rep and I planned to aim high and went for a 24% pay increase over 4 years and comp time to 160 and 1 sick day a month. We met in April and gave our list. Shorty after city agreed to everything but some small issues. For last month they have been dragging out signing contract that was suppose to start Aug 1st. 5 days before the contract start they backed out of the deal. They claimed they never checked the budget and can't afford…
Month: August 2023
I've been trying for decades now to find a life of dignity. I joined the workforce at 18, and I've done 40 hours a week, every week for nearly 20 years. A series of bad events Monday broke me, and this time in a way that I don't know if I can fix it. Housing is unaffordable and I still can't get outside of entry level. I have to cut back on meals just to make sure rent gets paid. My wife is disabled and works what she can but it isn't enough. We make too much to qualify for EBT, but not enough to afford groceries. I got turned down from a job paying $1 more an hour than what I'm making, because 15 years of experience is too low for their entry level position. My current job is doing RTO next month, and the gas isn't in the…
Been job hunting the past two months and went to open interviews at a bar opening soon near me, got hired on the spot bc of my previous experience. Not my favorite but I need the money. However, that was two days ago and I’ve yet to hear back from them about getting trained/when I start. What are the chances someone better came along after I did and got the position instead? Edit: I don’t have their number, when I asked I was told “oh we’ll call you tomorrow about training”
District Manager like to bully
So long story short we get new district manager at our work and we get pressure by her a lot lately, not only that if we don't follow her stupid rules or anything she will write us up. Been two to three week of working new District she been write me and my coworker which I am manager and my coworker is regular employee 3 three time. Should I quit this job and find better one or this abuse written should talk with supervisor ?
I've been here about three years. The last two, the goalpost gets moved about once a week. But when it does, the meeting you get with management makes it seem like it was always this way, not that it's just now changing. So I'm getting in trouble for things that are going into effect now, because I wasn't doing them before. (????) I will meet a goal, then the parameters of the goal get changed, so the next week I'm doing my job differently. Then the next, then the next. I exceed my numbers every day (not a joke, I keep records for myself) but I'm not “meeting that goal in the way they'd like”. I finished a project and turned it in before EOD the day it was due. I got an email the next day and I quote “While you did turn this in on time, we were…
Haye my job, but don’t know what to do
Back in April I joined a scheduling center for a health care corporation in the Midwest. I started taking calls and all seemed fine, but the type of calls I took weighed far too heavily on me and affected my mental health so terribly, I thought I might actually take my lifei spoke to my floor manager and the type of calls I answered were changed too. But it still hasn't helped, I still feel the same way I did before. I recently have developed several health concerns that I'm actively working on taking care of because my coverage is so good working for the facility that's seeing me for these issues, so that's what's keeping me from looking for another job right now. I've thought about maybe going to a trade school for something, but I'm not sure for what or where to even start. Any advice on where…
Oh my gosh
Anyone else annoyed with every aspect of their life?
The contract I work on was just awarded to a new company, actually two new companies and I was assigned to the shitty one. Before we received our offer letters I inquired about benefits, specifically the 401K and I was told that all employee benefits would be “equitable if not equal” between the two companies. Yeah……well the other team had their benefits actually listed in their offer. Mine….I just got a salary. I asked to have the benefits listed, specifically because I had been told when I previously worked for this company that anything not on the offer letter “didn't exist”. Got back another offer letter and there is an attachment with the 401K. To say it sucks is an understatement. Every other company I've worked for (except these guys) has offered to match the 1st 3% or 4% of an employee's contribution. Maybe it's a “we'll match 50% of…
I’m just not happy where I am. I probably got 1 months, maybe 2 months bills. But the way I’m feeling is rather take my chances… what do you think? And if you’re wondering why. Some people are real giant a*****es, and I want out.
I chose to have an interview with a company that offers less than what I currently make . Reason is was within a walking distance and I would save on fuel , get rid of car and earn some more time instead . I did not prepare for the interview .I have stopped preparing for interviews that offer that amount of money which is barely survivable (24K). The interviewer told me I had many skills , when I told her that I also study ..the immediately rejected me. This is the last time I am telling anyone out there who starts with the classic disgusting “Tell me about you” question that I am trying to better my life . Honestly , I will go back to lying them in their face. Thing is : I just don’t have the bloody time to sit in every interview and study their website…
