I once left a small design agency due to toxic management. They extended my probation which was a massive red flag for me, so I immediately went job hunting. I managed to get a new offer, more money with better stability. I hand in my notice and they're practically begging me to stay. After leaving, I left an honest Glassdoor review about my experiences there, how the work was great but management lie to clients, micromanage your time and don't prioritise the well-being of their staff. Cut to a year later into the new job and I get an even better opportunity elsewhere. They require 2 years worth of references… I request this from the toxic job and get an email saying “tell you what, let's do a deal, if you remove the Glassdoor review, we'll provide a reference”. These guys were holding my reference hostage, and not only that…
Month: August 2023
My GF & I had a conversation with the McDonalds staff in Cape Town, South Africa. We were shocked and appalled at what the workers told us. First of all, the women GET PAID MATERNITY LEAVE, vaction days, study leave and FREE transport for the night shift! McDonald’s is the MOST sought after restaurant to work for in the country. Why is America so backwards? I HATE IT HERE!!!
Seeing such a scenario is happening around me irl which is both funny and satisfying to watch the boss squirming since the guy who used to do the so-called simple task has stopped it.
I studied Language Teaching in Mexico. I started working immediately after I graduating and I've been working in different schools, just switching because of better opportunities. I had to leave teaching because I needed a stable job with proper benefits and a competitive salary, so I took th the decision to not continue for the next school year. Now the problem is that I can't find a job different from a call center. Is not that I hate them, but I feel that would be an involution in my professional career, and they are famous as soul-sucking jobs, but that's the place everyone advices me to go there. I found an interesting position but it starts at the end of the month and I literally can't wait that much to get a new job, need to take care of my mom and bills don't wait. I am frustrated and lost…
I have been a Director for a not-for-profit organization for less than a year. I moved to this province to be with my partner (who works in the health industry) and quickly got the job after I arrived. The position is relatively underpaid and has no benefits, and the organization struggled for four months to fill the vacancy. They were happy to have me join, and the board and the staff are all very happy with me. At first, I received a mess of an organization, despite it being a very reputable one, and I have been overworking ever since I took the job to try to organize it. This has involved renegotiating contracts, hiring new staff to build capacity, improving the office, addressing HR issues, planning events, creating new partnerships… you name it. A few months ago, I applied for two remote jobs with another not-for-profit, a directive and…
Long story short, I proved my ability by exceeding my targets in virtually every metric, and was then passed over for “not being ready”. It really is the straw that broke the camels back because I went above and beyond for years leading to this moment only to be described as unable to accept criticism when my opportunity came and I was denied. The criticism was quite literally that I can't accept being passed up for not being ready. Thats it. The rage I feel inside is overwhelming. I am wide awake and I have to be up in 5 hours to show my face there again and try to continue to put in effort to a place that has 0 investment in my progression. And the worst part is calling up sick gives me so much anxiety because I don't want to let them down. How did I become…
No extra salary for bilingual work
First off, I apologize if this is the wrong sub. I have no idea where to post this, and Google has 0 results. I am in Toronto, and I work in sales, selling professional training courses at a medium-sized company. When I applied for this job, I had put that in bilingual English/Spanish on my resume, but being bilingual was NOT in the job description AT ALL. I am the only fluent Spanish speaker in my workplace. They transferred me to the South America/LATAM team where all deals with clients are mostly in pure Spanish. I was the only one working on the team for a while. Then they added another coworker who has basic high school Spanish, but not enough speaking skills to interact with clients and get the necessary information. The company and this coworker constantly expects me to call her clients for her in Spanish, and throws…

I'm through with standing in line for yachts I can't fit in I'm eating on your dime, and I'm almost out of gin I'm so glad health care for me is relatively free (Tell me what you want) I want to be in the Senate and then pass it to my kids And a good pension plan so I can really live And a private jet that holds twenty barely legal teens (Uh, so what you need?) I'll need a credit card with no ceiling And a forwarding address for all my billing Gonna reject your forgiveness but don't touch my PPP (Been there, done that) I want lobby groups to kiss my ass And I want to cut all my taxes A slash between 50 and 60 is fine with me (So how you gonna do it?) I'm gonna trade this country like its a game I'd even pretend…
Abuse of Chat Agents
Corporations that offer chat services on their websites/apps are often abusing their employees with an excessive number of simultaneous chats. If you are a chat agent and are being abused in this way or were in the past, if you feel completely overwhelmed, don’t have sufficient time to complete transactions and respond while customers pressure you to respond more quickly and are experiencing too much stress, I would like to hear from you! – including the company you work for, the number of simultaneous chats, the specific chat software you use and the nature of the work that makes it overwhelming. My DMs are open. These are often OSHA violations that should be accompanied by fines, criminal prosecution and damage payouts to employees. The OSHA guidelines are insufficient for these scenarios currently require doctors to evaluate employees in real-time instead of establishing industry-specific regulations for this type of work and…
