Insane story yesterday. I was delivering for a pizza shop here on the east coast. Food come out, I box it up. Like 2-3 deliveries on the screen. I take the lowest number order (meaning it’s the earliest order) assign to myself and head out. This coworker tries to say that I skipped an order to get to the next one bc the one I skipped isn’t a tipper. Not true – based on the numbering of the orders. It was the next one. I told them they’re insane and left for the delivery. I get back. They gets back from their order. Comes up to me to tell me the number I took was after the one they took. I literally showed them the number on the receipt before I left. I concluded this is a psycho and said multiple times to stop talking to me. They wouldn’t. And…
Month: August 2023
My family, my friends, every person a little close to me only want to talk about work. I miss talking about my interests (i have many) and idk – gossip? So many conversations since i turned into an adult have been about how my work is now, so i want to stay in this job? do i want to educate further? what is my dream job etc. I would to be honest live a life without work if i could. I don’t want to be rich to have a nice car or own a yacht, i want to be rich so i can spend my time on things i like. LIVE. I understand that others want to talk about their job but after telling everyone i don’t want to talk about mine – why do people still insist? Work is like 20% of my life and i’d rather enjoy the…
PTO and Scheduling
My work has the dumb procedure of have 2 different modes to track your schedule vs. you actual time table, and as such there are multiple ways to request your PTO. The only way to see how much PTO you have is through the time table app and so I requested it through there since my work place also allows you to accrue negative PTO, and I don’t want that. Both ways are acceptable, and I have been told I can use either. Something I do both, sometimes I do just one. But they are always accepted and adhered to. I requested off a specific block of days weeks ago and had to extended it by one day and all was approved. I made note in our system as well to let the other staff know I will be out of office during that time and even verbally mentioned it…

Average pay isn’t sustainable
I was doing some research about costs where I live. In my county you need to make 24.62 $ per hour to rent a 1 bedroom apartment with 2 kids. On average we spend about 500$ on BASIC groceries and gas as of this morning was 1.70$ P/L. I also did a call to my insurance company and am paying 120$ a month for car insurance on a 23 yr old car. With a perfect driving record. Minimum wage where I live is $15.50. I currently make 20$ an hour. This is a really good job in most people's opinion, but this isn't sustainable. When people are looking to buy a house it's worse much worse. I am lucky to be married to an incredible human who also works, but I'm in the minority. Thinking of asking for a raise. How do I go about this in your experience. Do…
Is a General Union Possible?
I see people periodically post about a general strike and it always gets shot down because it's always for some arbitrary date not that long into the future yada yada yada. The arguments against make sense but I feel like no matter how far out you push it there will never be enough solidarity and organization amongst inherently unorganized workers. That's why unions became a thing in the first place. At the same time I see a lot of people in favor say that a general strike could literally bring the economy and the elite to their knees and that makes some sense too. So my question is why is it always a general strike to get suggested first thing? Could there be some kind of general union that we form first to make something like a general strike more of a possibility? If it's possible what better place to…
Recently my boss moved me to a new position. Apparently after a year, there wasn't enough work in the position I was originally hired into, and so the options were for me to be layed off, or take the new position. As my boss was explaining this to me, he said this new position has much more work to do, and will keep me more busy. And then, as if it were some sort of selling point, he told me how when you keep busy, the day goes by faster. I asked him why i would want my day to go by faster, and he didn't have an answer. It was actually comically to see him stutter his way through not having an answer. Of course the answer was so that you can make the work day go by quicker, because who wants to be here. Maybe I should just…
