So my work has a point system

For attendance. If you get to work late, but under 2 hours from start time, you get a half a point. More than 2 hours a whole point. If you call in 1 point. No call no show 2 points. At 9 points you get terminated. The other day around lunch a coworker got a phone call from his neighbor saying his house is on fire. He left, obviously, to go home. His house burnt to the ground. He lost everything, including his 2 dogs. He showed up to work a few days later and HR came down to talk to him. We assumed they were reaching out to see what kind of assistance they could offer. They gave him paperwork stating he got a point for leaving early the day his house burnt down. The entire plant is fuming about it. We have a communications meeting every month. I…

A new management trend : fire someone as soon as you become a permanent

Hi, just wanted to ask here if this is a new trend I'm seeing now or if anyone have encountered this before? I live/work in Europe but lately I have seen this thing where new managers will immediately latch on someone after starting and make sure they get fired as soon as that manager becomes permanent. This happened to me personally beginning this year where my “first 6 month freindly” manager put me on an unrealistic Performance Improvement Plan the moment he became permanent. During the first 6 month he has never complained about my work quality or ethic. I ended up leaving the company. This year alone, i have seen a couple of my freinds in the same company but also elsewhere get the same treatment. A Manager comes in the company and after 3/6 months will fire/push someone to leave unrelated to their work quality or ethic. My…

Company doesn’t pay OT until after 55 hours?

Hey guys so i started my job about 7 months ago and my company doesn’t pay out overtime until you work 55 hours first. Is this like a legal thing or what? I’ve never had a job that pays out like that, i thought it was 40 hours all around. Anything i can do about it other than finding another job? Its decent pay and mostly easy work (to me) but its no reason why my guys are risking heat stroke and we are getting robbed of our hard earned money. Not trying to sound entitled or anything im just saying

my coworkers don’t like me and my boss is trying to frame me for negative interactions that i have had with them.

my boss sent me a long email this morning about “fostering positive relationships in the workplace” because yesterday i snapped at employee who has been bullying me for months. i’ve sent her evidence but she keeps sending me these vague emails insinuating i’m at fault. should i respond with this? hi gail, thanks for the feedback. i did bring this to your attention yesterday and sent you a screenshot of the interaction between Julia and I but i did not receive a response from you. this has been a recurring issue for months and i have previously expressed to you that there has been unprofessional communication with this person. i have tried to maintain a professional, courteous and polite attitude with all of my colleagues. i am open to a mediation or a meeting discussing this further and to hearing your thoughts on any solutions”

I work two jobs and I still can’t afford a car

I work up to 55hrs a week. I’m 21, I graduated in 2020, had a full ride to college until my mother fucked it for me. I got my own place when I turned 19, and ever since, I am scraping by. I make $14.50 at one job, and $15.30 at the other. Luckily I’ll be able to pick up more hours at my second job, but my income for both jobs monthly is $2100. I don’t make enough to qualify for food stamps, but I am barely scraping by still. I don’t know what to do. Uber and Lyft is $880 a month for me. I get my groceries delivered so I don’t have to Uber to Walmart. I don’t have an option to find a better job until I get a car. I have my permit, but I still need practice driving. I can’t afford to take driving…

The microManager

Hi all – I just wanted some opinions/thoughts on this matter. So my remote crew has had a manager now for about 2 and a half years now. To put it straight, she's a covert micromanager. In our meetings, she always tries to come across empathetic and caring and I've seen her on multiple occasions profess to take one route of action yet, when she deals with the actual situation, she is much more cruel. She will say she has our back, but then when we get a email with her cc'ed in from a customer, it's immediately what did we do and our fault..feels accusatory. Zero empathy. I've seen her hound my coworkers and want them to explain why they were doing things the way they did and other specific people she plays favorites with. I've also noticed she does things to specific people, the nicer you are, the…

THOUGHTS: On not bringing outside emotions into the workplace.

I currently work in an environment where bringing outside or “home” emotions (or tbh any emotions at all), are a massive no-no. It’s considered highly unprofessional so crying, worrying, mulling, stewing, overthinking and allowing any emotion at all to get the better of you results in a serious write up/meeting with management. I’m curious to here what you guys think.

On Call 24/7 ?

I think this might be the right subreddit to post this question but I am not sure. Please direct me if not. My boyfriend works a job where he can receive a call at any point during the day and night. He works 8-4 Monday – Friday but still gets calls after hours. He is not compensated for answering any calls after hours even though they come a minimum of 3 time a week. This week alone there have been 8 calls and one was at 2am. He is completely on edge about missing a call, to a point where he won't drink with his buddies on the weekend or not sleep because he is a heavy sleeper. Should he be compensated for answering these calls after his regular working hours? He keeps saying that “it comes with the job” but I just can't fathom that since he is not…
