My boss was out for a while as they trained a new manager but she just came back. There have been a lot of communication issues that have made parts of the job very difficult, not to mention I have a medical condition that is making it extremely difficult to do my job. Don’t offer advice about that. So I brought up some of these communication issues and anxieties to my manager in an email where she didn’t answer any of my questions, said I couldn’t keep bringing this issue to her (the first time I’ve done so) and that because I cced the union email and she couldn’t see it she said it could be viewed as disruptive. So now she’s back and I know I fucked up here. I was trying to present a problem with a solution because that’s usually how people respond best to me but…
Month: August 2023
Quitting job for a break.
So Im 34 – I've been at my job for just under a year, after leaving a company i had been at for 10+ years. Long story short, im not happy here – the work load is too high, the staff are overworked and the job is mentally draining, the other 2 guys in my office are depressed and spend most of their day sulking. My mental health has definitely taken a turn for the worse. I want out – Ive been trying to get a new job for the last 3/4 months, but i have nowhere i can go for interviews (remote or in person) i have to have the interview in a quiet road because there is no where safe in my office to have that kind of call. I am seriously debating quitting and trying to find work then, because im so happy and being employed here…
So my partner was diagnosed w cancer at a young age in 2018. They made it through cancer but then have to take monthly injections of some anti cancer BS deep into their body that is basically lower dose chemo, which ruins their immune system. Covid happened and we have not gone indoors without a mask since, because the oncologist says due to the medications side effect of wrecking immune system, if they got covid it could be really bad. The whole company was wfh from 2020 to roughly 6 months ago, where they announced hybrid rules and 3 days a week in office. I told my manager no, I’m not going to risk getting them sick and go against doctors orders. This was fine when covid was still recognized as a big deal, but now that the health emergency is “over” it’s coming to more of a head. Today…
Finished my quitting playlist today!
Playlist: We Don't Work Here No More I've been working on this since October when the last coworker I liked quit, it's been a valuable coping tool for me (my brain is not great and I use music as a mood stabilizer) but also a pretty fun joke to pass around to the other people who are on or near the brink of quitting. I always thought it would be funny to get it to a full 8 hours to cover a shift, and I just got it there today! Its… eclectic. Some of the choices were based on titles or lyrics, a couple are thematically appropriate to my place of work (Jolene is the hold music I am 100% certain they don't have a license for, as an example). I'm not gonna claim this is the only thing that kept me hanging on for nine goddamn months til I…
So I just started my new job/role 2 weeks back and i just want to hear from you if it was difficult for you when you first started your job? I’m not sure if I’m the odd one out but I’m dying – getting to know my boss’ working style, workload, getting to know new people, learning the process and even a new working environment. I just had my first townhall today and my social anxiety is at its peak. Trying my best though everyday, but would be open to anyone sharing their experience and some encouragement so it feels less alone 🙁
I need to vent out. Me and my wife worked for the same job. The job was suppose to be about project management but turn out it was mostly customer service. It was a decent pay but the work atmosphere degraded rapidly. I started at the beginning of Covid and managed an empty office with no training… Having to learn everything WITHOUT onboarding. My wife joined me a year later. I did her onboarding. The lab people were condescending as hell, never helped us with our project. Recruitment declined so fast, people stayed in average 5 month before leaving for better job. We were doing worst and worst. Upper management always had “big plan” by buying other labs. When I left, our team was down to half is size (and still decreasing with almost no recruitment done, burning people our). They are bleeding client like crazy. I was there for…
Have you ever been bored at work in an office and started googling random things and one of the things you googled was 'the evolution of man' and then you see a Wikipedia page or something that says we evolved on the plains of Africa, where you could see long distances and run around if you wanted and the sky was right there the whole time? And then you look up at the office where you have been sitting for the past four hours and it's just a grid of desks or cubicles under punishing artificial light, with walls that are big white rectangles except for the occasional dreary calendar? It makes you wonder what on Earth we are doing with the design of our office spaces (or what the management are thinking). Offices could at least have special soft lights that mimic the outside, natural vistas painted…
Corporate just keeps f@#cking us.
I work in a restaurant where it’s going to be hard to find another where I make the same money. We typically do somewhere in the neighborhood of $20 million a year. We used to charge servers the cost of the credit card transaction fee to process their tips but ended up adding a convenience fee of 3% for each credit card transaction. They eventually changed the name to staff benefits, that’s harder to argue over. Servers were no longer charged for credit card tips. We had an event during season that had $215k minimum. On top of that minimum was a 24% gratuity. The guests were only capable of spending $115k. So $100k was pure profit. Company then claimed that the tips generated on the $100k were not entitled to the staff so that went back to the owners pocket. Those tips were still paid by guest. After the…
I’m a little scared and I would like to join a union. My boss is getting chewed out for overtime hours worked so he is telling some of the employees to stop coming in so early, but there are some that do come in early and are told not to clock in until a certain time, some employees of which have to come in due to us being short staffed. Normally when we have someone who can’t make it I’m the one they call, I’m just afraid they might try to take hours from my check.
