People that job hop every one to two years to increase your salary, what type of work do you do? I’m getting more and more disgruntled with my current job working for a background screening company. We have gone through two acquisitions & now we are super corporate when we started as a 100< employee company. It sucks! The culture has changed so much & I hate it. I’ve been with them for 5+ years but I now feel undervalued & like a number. I need out but I’m hesitant to leave bc I do feel like my job is secure & it is remote, but I just don’t like what the company stands for anymore & I feel underpaid. Any job hopping advice or just moving on from a job in general is appreciated.

Worked for a chemical factory via a temp agency. The work was semi skilled, and you could not just walk in off the street and do it. Was promised a contract in the new year. Never arrived, usual excuses. “it will have to be next year now, due to financial restraints” I learnt as much as I could in the mean time, ran my job role really well, waited until I knew the only other guy in the department (he was on a contract) was going on leave for two weeks and during their busy period), and gave my notice in , so that my last day, would be also his last day prior to his holiday. They were p*ssed as anything, manager had a face like thunder. They offered me an extra £8 a week to stay until he came back from leave, so that they were not left…
Found this screenshot from an old job.
Sure, as long as you employ the old school tactic of paying me for my work.
I work as a pest control tech, and the way appointments work is that sales reps go door-to-door (you can tell that this story is starting GREAT) and chat up customers to sign a contract. They then schedule appointments for said customers to be serviced by whatever techs are out in that area for the day. I’ve serviced some of the worst houses that didn’t need pest control, but rather needed to be burned DOWN. One home had holes going through the foundation in the kitchen. Another had air so thick that I needed an actual gas mask just standing at the door. Clearly our sales reps are just greedy and don’t care who they sell to if they’re making 50% of the completion payment. But one house was just an 1800’s roadside shack that the current homeowner added on to during the 30 years he lived there. The homeowner…
Who's familiar with this scenario? Karen comes up to the counter, all in a froth because she's pissed off about something and she demands you do something against company policy, which obviously you can't do. You explain this, she flips out and demands to see the manager. Manager rolls up, makes 'an exception' for Karen, making themselves look like a hero and you look like an asshole. Well, I worked retail for 15 years and here's my advice for dealing with this situation. Remember that bit where you literally cannot do the thing Karen is demanding you do? Either you just plain can't do it without a manager's code or whatever, or you'd get in trouble for doing it? That is precisely the extent to which you should care about this situation. What the hell do you care if Karen wants to return a half-eaten bagel or a toy that…
I got fired today :(
I got fired today on the spot, after working for a whole year with them . A customer told me to keep the change (1 doller and some cents) so I put it in my pocket. Another customer went ape shit on me and my manager saying I stole from the customer. She chased down the customer and told her to come back to take the change so she did. I gave it to her and said “thank you have a good day :)”. The crazy lady then called the store and an hour later they called me to the office to explain and sign papers. They told me to go home for the day and they would call me for the final decision. They never called me and I am no longer on the schedule…
We get our schedule of patients for the next day’s visits everyday at 5pm. I messaged my supervisor group (I have 3) when I saw myself on tomorrow’s schedule. I requested off for my honeymoon and had no idea if I actually had these days off or not.

Round table of middle managers
I have to attend a 1 hour meeting next week with HR and a group of other middle managers to talk about corporate culture blah blah blah. I was complaining to my spouse and realized if I talk about what I really think (everyone I work with is toddlers who don’t plan in advance and expect me to bail them out regularly just to keep the business running) probably won’t go over well. I need to use words that sound like I drank the koolaid. What do I talk about.
