Jobs texting vs email

I got laid off last week, and a lot of the jobs I am applying for are trying to do business via text. I am old (almost 50) so this seems very scamy to me. Am I just shouting at a cloud here?

Retaliation for Being Sick

I know, it's a tale as old as time: You take time off work to get better from an illness, and somehow suddenly after you're feeling better, your employer finds some fault in your job. So, last week I took a couple of days off with paid sick time due to being (surprise!) sick. That's what the time is supposed to be used for, so that's what I used it for. Now, today as I come in I'm receiving some paperwork to sign saying that my hair/beard are “against company policy.” I have worked for this company for five years and had fairly long hair, and a beard the entire time. The only new thing is that this is the first time I've taken off two consecutive days in a row my entire time with the company. Legally, where I live, this paid sick time is government-mandated, and includes a…

My boss wants me to wear my ID badge to lunch

I work for a local council and like all of them, their biggest concern is optics and appearing greater and more altruistic than they are. I'm lazy so I go out for lunch every time I'm at the office rather than bringing in prepared food. The most recent time, my boss and teammate tagged along. In the middle of the meal, my boss asked where my council ID lanyard was (it was in my bag). He then told me about how I should be wearing it when I'm eating out around town etc because it shows that council still has a “city footprint” (rather than solely WFH) and that we support local business. I told him when council is paying, I'll wear it. THAT would be council supporting local business. Me =/= council. Money that I have earned from working for council =/= council's money. He then gave me a…

Any other recent Gen Z graduates feel like they have no future?

Unless I decide to work in one of few fields, I probably can't make decent living. And even then the bar for jobs that don't underpay you is so high. A dream of living independently without suffering, even in an apartment feels so unattainable. Is it as bad as I feel like it is or is the situation massively exaggerated?

Office drama has ruined my job

I started working at a privately owned specialty business 3 months ago. Theres 7 of us employees. All of them, except me, have been in this industry for at least 5 years. I am brand new. Day 1, I was thrown into the fire. I have received no actual training, and just clean and do data entry most days. I joined with the understanding that I would become certified in a special position, but every time I ask about it, theres always excuses from my boss about it being too busy and shes getting paperwork for it. I am not trained to do almost anything on my own, and I am so lost. 2 of my coworkers are the most dramatic people I have ever met in my life, and I have been employed at several places over the years. They are very rude, mean, and crass. They hate almost…

My co-worker is a snitch.

So I am a line cook/chef, have been for years and the other day something really ground my gears. One of the other line cooks who is semi new, told on a server for stealing toilet paper. She got fired. Two days later he put in his 2 weeks notice and he and his girlfriend knew that the owner was kinda looking for any reason to fire her. I don’t know about y’all, but nobody likes a snitch. She was one of my favorite servers, always asked the line if we wanted espresso drinks when she came in. Always ran her food. But she didn’t fit in with the clique of the younger servers. Also, she had a lot of stuff going on outside of work, in recovery etc. Like it’s fucking toilet paper bro, why you gotta go rat on somebody and cost them their livelihood. Especially since you’re…

Anyone else had a job where the management always decides to do the exact opposite of what a regular worker suggests, almost on purpose?

Wasn't sure how common this is but I've had a more than just a couple jobs where you have an idea at work about how some process or procedure should work or could work better, you submit this idea officially in a meeting, management collects the information, and days later a decision is made that is the exact opposite of what was suggested. You try that again with another idea, they decide the opposite again. And again. And it almost makes you wonder if reverse psychology would work with submitting ideas where you submit the idea you specifically do not want so that management chooses the exact thing you do want.

Capitalism will be what drives me to seek an early death

I know I can’t be the only mentally ill person feeling this way. I’ve dealt with mental health my whole life and if I’m being honest with myself I don’t know that I can keep “grinding” until I die. This is a miserable existence as it is and I’m only 30. My family is toxic and I have zero love or support from them. I don’t want to bum out the friends I do have so I can’t talk to them about this. Therapy only seeks to make this forced rat race somewhat more tolerable. I persevere and endure so much only to hand over $2k a month to a shitty landlord for a shitty one bedroom apartment. More than half what I make in month straight to some asshole’s investment portfolio. I’m even more exhausted by the fact that we are on a floating rock in space worried about…

My boss sent me this after I couldn’t make an appointment because I was still with another client 14 miles away. Resigned shortly after this.

On call for a sales job and we had to wait around to get assigned appointments. I called to inform him I wouldn't make an appointment 14 miles away because I was trying to close a client while building rapport and helping them decide. Never worked for someone so unhinged in my life. Fuck sales lol

My job is cutting my hours, but I haven’t been officially laid off. People like to doodle and write jokes on the carts we use and I saw this while bending over (my back was killing me).
