I’m in healthcare and work in a relatively high volume / stress environment. It’s an area that’s part of an 1199 union and I’ve been working as a union employee for close to 15 years. Last year I was able to score a leadership position in the union itself but it’s still very much limited in the scope that your just covering for management when they are off / etc. The pay is nice, I get close to 120k and the annual raises are part of a collective bargaining agreement between the union and hospital every 3 years (usually it’s between 3-5% each year). Along with other benefits like paid medical and a pension I’d receive when I hit 62 or 65 whatever. I’m already vested in the pension since I’ve been in it for 15 years. I’ve been recently approached by management for a supervisor job in my department…

Getting hit with the PIP today
I’m not going to go into it too much, but I had my 2 year annual review with my boss last week and he ripped into me about a lot of things. I’m a good worker in some areas but the little mistakes I made, according to him, detracts from all the good work I do. He ripped into me. I haven’t been happy here and obviously after that meeting I cried a lot and had a bad headache the next morning from crying and insomnia. So today, we’re meeting with HR to discuss about it and while I’m nervous, I can’t say I’m surprised. I haven’t been happy here at all. I mean there’s good moments that make me feel it’s not so bad after all but most days are filled with dread. In the meantime, I’m buckling down on my job search and working on my side hustle.…
New work ‘Opportunity’
Hello Everyone, I hope you're doing. So here's the thing, I'm the only son, my parents are old and sick (can barely walk) and my company wants to send me to Malaysia for work (because another company interviewed me, from my current company's platform, and hired me as a full time consultant), and my current company would be paying me the same Pakistani Salary, plus a daily allowance for food and stuff to stay in Malaysia and a place for me to stay at. It may cause a delay in my plans to construct a house in Pakistan and get married, something I have been planning to do for almost 2 years now. I think I should be paid more, not just a daily allowance to pay for food there, kinda sounds like exploitation of my circumstances. Would you take this offer? Or negotiate for a higher raise? I am…
Alright, I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong place. I'm not in the US so work culture is a little different here. I work in a niche industry that normally just takes temps and it's super hard to be made permanent. I wanted to eventually be made permanent mainly because I suffer from a mental health condition and I need the stability and health benefits. My company is basically the only one in the industry that actually offers a decent benefits package. I actually enjoy the work and culture in general too. So after working for them for collectively about 2 years as a temp, I got made permanent but I got moved to a different business location. Said I would stick out my six months probation no matter what and then maybe start applying for jobs internally to get something more suited to me. Well, my boss…
I called OSHA regarding a few issues at my workplace that have been causing health issues for my coworkers and generally making us feel unsafe with everything from bugs dropping in our food to fumes everyday. I originally spoke with a representative who took the information for the owners of the company. Now it’s been three weeks without an update. I called my local OSHA rep this morning for an update and they said they were still waiting to hear back from my company. What can I do from here? We’re all just fed up and ready to quit en masse.
So i just worked for a company in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I worked there for 4 years carrying making and nonstop more carrying stones(100lbs+) sand buckets and rock buckets (65lbs+). 7-4ishpm monday through friday. Worked 40-45 hours a week (never onced complained about never getting any over time pay) I worked my ass off all day everyday. So much that i was making 22$ an hour which i started from 12$. I even moved to an apartment that was .7 miles away from the shop so i could be closer. The owner talked about profit sharing with me offered a bonus on a couple of jobs that we had to grind out rush orders for and never wanted to pay up when the time came. I was the only employee for around 2.5 years. Then the owner hired a couple mexican men for 12$ an hour and said “they will…
My Coworkers suck
So I work for a university. It isn’t my first job, I was laid off and took this after a year of contract and bullshit. The work itself isn’t challenging but when the opportunity came up it appeared rewarding and fulfilling up until I took the gig. The problem with the gig is when I took this gig I heard that it was going to be fun and a great team with support & I wouldn’t need to do things I didn’t like doing. Fast forward 8 months and it isn’t anything like that. I have little to no support rather than focusing on new I have been cleaning up problems left and right, because rather than keep up on maintenance they let stuff choke. I have no support, the one other person that does similar enough work is leaving on maternity, we have no back up for her and…
It is absolutely ridiculous to me that businesses wanna pay people a low salary and on top of that have no AC in there establishment. If you can't afford to run AC throughout your business then you shouldn't be allowed to have a business point blank period. People shouldn't have to burn up and suffer from severe heat just because you can't afford to provide them with cool air.
