I’m a recent grad and started this job beginning June. It is a Fortune 500 company and the work culture is definitely intense. I sit at a cubicle in a silent office and every time I put my water flask down (not slamming it) the gal next to me acts irritated, to the point where she got up her desk to grab me a stack of paper towels and placed it on my desk to put my water bottle down on it so it doesn’t make noise. and some other guy in the cubicle on the other sides whistles when I place it down “too hard”. Can’t even make a bit of noise. I feel like I have to watch my back here. I had a meeting with my manager and she told me a few people went to her to tell her they saw me on me texting on…

i work as a valet, so there’s a company insurance policy for the cars while we handle them. each shift a certain proportion of our tips is taken based on how many cars we parked that day, so even tho the clients tip us like $100 cash we could only walk away with $75. i’ve looked online and only found laws about tipping as it applies to tipped professionals like servers. not much about valet or if the valet are usually responsible for their own insurance policy. i have a call with an employment lawyer tomorrow to talk about it, so i’m mostly just ranting here. like i worked my ass off at our highest earning location and they took almost 40% of the tips me and my coworker earned that night. it’s fucked up. why aren’t they taking the cost out of their profits like other business costs? they’re…
She became a shell of a person, even on weekends she rants about office politics. I told her to let it go but she wouldn't or can't.
Almost everyday I find myself just wrapped in anxiety and congested from stream of daily tears of frustration. After spending 10+ years of working shitty jobs, I finally landed a place where I was happy and felt accomplished at a job that treated me well and paid me fairly in an expensive city. On top of that, I found the position to be fulfilling in that I felt I was making an impact and felt appreciated by the CEO and president of the company. Throughout my 4+ years at this company, I was able to get my MBA while still working full-time. It just so happened I graduated with my masters just before our company announced our acquisition during the begining of the pandemic. On paper, everything was great, I had my MBA which really put me in an optimal position at this new company. I had some really unique…
I live in a smaller city in the west US. I have had 3 jobs since May who have all said they'd give me 30-40 hours a week. With my hopes up each time, I was anticipating being able to move in with my partner by Fall. Now I'm on job 3 with only 15 hours a week when the employer said they'd give me whatever hours “they could get”. Am I wrong for assuming they'd give me that much? I'm just very discouraged and I honestly just want to make even the bare minimum to move out of my parents house. Any advice or just some relatability? Lol good luck to you all living I this late capitalistic hellscape 🙂
Hello, on Friday I handed my notice in at work. I have to give 1 months notice but HR said that I could deduct my remaining 4 days holiday from that. Now I only have to work 3 weeks and 1 day. So instead of finishing 25/08/2023 I will finish 21/08/2023. I put all of this in my resignation letter along with the fact that this was all agreed with HR. Monday morning my manager called me into their office and said that Im not allowed to deduct my remaining holiday from my notice period. Instead they want to pay me for the holiday and that I have no say in this matter. They want me to write a new resignation letter with a full months notice period. If my notice period has already been agreed with HR and my resignation letter has already been handed in do they have…
I recently just left a hotel industry that I will leave unnamed for now, and I'm thinking about going back since the same boss that I had major issues with is no longer there, since she got fired for multiple “no call-no shows”. I just came to find out that she lied about how I left the establishment, and I have solid proof of evidence of her blatantly lying about it. It has actively tarnished my reputation with corporate and the company itself. Even though she no longer works there, I need to set things straight with that same company if I want to go back and work there. I quit for a multitude of reasons, and also notified everyone at the establishment the moment I quit, including someone from corporate with the attempt to explain my story, but I never got a response from them. I either told them…
Working 40 hours is not enough – the boss gives me funny looks if I do no overtime. Not only do they force you to work 40 hours a week with ridiculous pay. No they also expect like 20 or 30 hours of overtime each month and give you funny looks when you leave after 8 hours of work. I get it if you do it voluntarily and want/need the money. But when you have an All in Contract – its ridiculous.
Last Monday, (one week ago from today), I had an interview at a local store. The following morning, I got a call from a manager offering me a position, which I accepted. They then told me I needed to come in and sign some papers. I did, and then they told me I would be getting an email soon to complete the onboarding process and after that, I'd be getting a call from the training manager regarding my starting date. Fast forward to today, and I have yet to get either an email or a call from anyone at the store. I'm beginning to think they ghosted me, and I just wasted the last week waiting when I could've been actively searching for another job. (I just quit my last job because I could no longer afford the gas for the long commute.)
