Manager stealing perks from the employees

Writing this in on mobile sorry in advance for any weird editing. I work a kind a very specific job in a niche industry, but essentially I am a manager of a private storefront for a trade company. The trade company contracted with my company (parts supply) to have us be a private vendor to their field employees. My company has public store fronts as well, and recently we have implemented a rewards program for customers. This includes my own host company. When I charge out a ticket above a certain amount, I add reward points to the employee’s account using a phone number. They can save these points for really cool stuff we showcase on the app. I’m talking anything from seasonings and hand tools to yeti coolers, major power tools, and name brand barbecues. There is a manager who I have to work closely with due to the…

I was let go a year ago, and life is much better now.

I must admit while the job was soul sucking, I actually had a good mid level boss who shielded me from all the corporate politics and let me do my job. The company was run poorly by a an angry and insecure CEO who ultimately ran things into the ground all while competitors prospered. They’ve since let most people go and are hanging on almost in name only. Anyways, one year later and I’m self employed and make more money than I ever did working full time for them. Now I spend more time with family, lost weight, mitigated the depression (while still present has much improved), and started to restore my self worth as a capable individual. The hindsight realization that I could have done this YEARS ago kind of pisses me off.. from constantly saying how tough it was out there and creating fear about the job market…

The recruiting industry is proof the system is broken

I know several recruiters. They make absurdly good money. Two recruiters I know earn more than $200,000 a year, and another made $400,000 last year. It’s unreal that the job market for bullshit office work has gotten so bad that an entire industry has spawned to navigate the completely unnecessary, self imposed maze. Businesses that refuse to offer raises will gladly pay upwards of 20% of a new hires first year salary to a recruiter for their “assistance” finding candidates. Take a step back and think about it. Recruiting shouldn’t be a thing. The fact it exists is proof our economy is stupidly constructed. We compensate teachers with peanuts and treat them like shit. We more nurses than ever but we chase far too many away from the profession. Social workers that make an actual difference in people’s lives can barely scrape by. Paramedics do so much but are rewarded…

Do you have to pay for parking at work? If so, how much?

I have to pay around $90 a month to park at work in a major US city (I make around 30K per year so this is a substantial expense for me). Unfortunately the public transportation infrastructure is very limited -there are only a few bus lines, the buses are never on time and come infrequently. Roads surrounding work do not have bike lanes and I’m afraid of getting run over on heavily trafficked roads. No trains or subways. Because of that everybody is basically forced to pay for parking, and they know this so they charge whatever they want. IMO paying for parking at work is a tax on showing up for work. Anybody else in the same boat?

I hate working at the IRS

I'm a Mail Clerk at the IRS, and I've been here for a little over a year now. I started when I was 19, and it's actually my first job. A lot of folk tell me that it's a really good first job financial wise. But I'm starting to see past the money. Maybe it's because the work is mundane and I'm stressed coming into and leaving work. Or maybe it's because I have a hateful manager whom I've reported for a legitimate reason, and tries to cover up their reports by firing people (there's a lot of corruption here). Is this the work lifestyle? My dream is to become a firefighter, but I don't even know if I can do that cause this job is eating away at my sanity day by day. I have a decent enough savings to live for a few months without a job, but…

This restaurant has been shady with tips in the past and after seeing this, wondering if it’s legal for them to refund the actual tip. This is a counter service restaurant in Kentucky.
