Phenomenon of “Permatemp” jobs is a big problem all over the US and one you barely hear anything about it in the media

I had two permatemp jobs in my career. You are called an “independent contractor” and file your taxes as one so that the employer could skip out on the same wages and benefits that they offer normal employees on top of getting a tax break. Another added bonus for the company is that they could “terminate the contract” at any time leaving you with little to no recourse. You have to do everything they tell you to, and you have almost no flexibility at all in terms of hours, when/how to bill, when you do your work, etc. If you try to act like a real independent contractor they will throw you out. There are thousands and thousands of permatemps being misclassified, but none have the financial power to go toe to toe with lawyers of corporations. It is a big problem but I almost see nobody talking about, maybe…

What is the pettiest way to quit my job?

This is the shortest time I’ve been at a job before deciding to quit. Everyone was too busy to train me. They kept sending me home early (it was hourly) because they were “low on hours.” I need my hours to eat. I’ve already lined up an 8-5 full time job starting in the next few weeks. It’s a job as a dog bather. I don’t even know why I thought it was a good idea. Manager told me COMPLETELY different things about what this job would be like when I first started. Said I would be full time, but a couple times in the 3 weeks I’ve been here, they took me off the schedule and didn’t tell me until I showed up the day of which is EXTREMELY inconvenient. I probably work about 60-75% of the hours they promised me, which is making me take a hit financially.…

Boss spends a whole meeting to praise us on the great work done and finished with that

So I sat a two hour meeting with boss praising us on what great work the team has done for the last year. And then finishes off with “I really don’t know how to thank you all for the hard work”! Like ….. money?????? I mean this is the person who signs off the paychecks……… Our salaries are dependent on your decision???? What do you mean you don’t know how to thank us?? Whatever happenned to bonuses, salary increases and promotions? Did we just stop doing that and switch to pizza party instead? Please tell me I’m not crazy for finding this statement deranged.

My brother created an app to simulate UBI

Tired of waiting for the government to give us ours? Let's show people how awesome UBI can be so that they can vote on it themselves! Please support if you can, but liking and sharing is more than enough 🙂

My job’s parent company has restricted vacation to be no more than five business days in a row

Basically the title. I had to adjust my Christmas vacation with my family because our parent company has put in a new rule saying no more than five business days in a row. Sorry, folks, guess you’re fucked if you want to take a ten day vacation anywhere! There go my tentative plans to visit Europe next year, too my immediate boss at least has been fighting the frankly ridiculous rules they’ve been trying to implement, and she’s been squabbling with them on this one too. Silver lining, I guess.

What job should I do ?

Hi guys, I recently quit a job that I hated, and have been applying for job positions as a full time student. I have a few potential positions and need some guidance on what to do. The 3 jobs are as a therapist for autistic children making 27/hr, as a Tutor making 17 – 19/hr, and as a cashier/stocker working at Aldi, making $19.50 an hour. One option right now is just working at Aldi in retail, 4 days a week, so a total of 32 hours. The only thing is I heard Aldi is really tough, and physically demanding. I don't mind working hard, but I'm afraid cause of classes, and because of law school applications and studying for the LSAT. The other option is doing both therapy for autistic children for 12 hours in the week, and doing the tutoring job for 20 hours. I feel I would…

Lied to by HR?

I live in Texas, and I’ve worked at this place for an average of more than 31 hours a week for… like 2 years. Like I usually work 40 hours a week. I’ve never been offered PTO or health insurance. So, I got fed up with it and I asked for PTO…. My boss sent a few emails, never heard anything back. I went to the HR head’s office. “Your PTO was approved but because it has to be pro-rated, (this other person) is having trouble entering it into Paycom (the software for payroll), but I’ll send you an email soon about details.” Sooo I asked the other person and they said they’d give the chief another nudge for it to get done…. Which seems suspicious. This was on September 12th and I’ve still heard nothing. Advice?

Is wisdom tooth pain an okay reason to call out of work?

Just started working at this restaurant as a Busser. I’ve only worked about 3 days. Every day it was super slow. I went in yesterday and got sent home after about 30 minutes cause it was so slow. I’m just in a lot of pain. I thought I would be okay after taking a couple ibuprofen. But my jaw and head hurt. It moved to my eye as well. Idk what to do. Should I just suck it up and go in? I work from 4-10. I do have an appointment to get my wisdom teeth removed. But it’s not till October 10th. It was the only appointment that was soon
