My job is sometimes based on the weather. Today, everyone else was told not to come in due to the rain expect for me. I walked into the office to punch in and my boss was surprised that I was 'there early' and that there's no work today. Apparently he was just about to notify the 10 am people not to come in, meanwhile I've worked the 8 am shift for 6 months now and all the other morning workers somehow got notified. He at least let me punch in and I worked 1h45 out of a 9 hour shift. This job has been pushing me in all other ways too, but I've stuck it out because it should end in about a month. But this lack of communication and lack of work due to the weather is really pissing me off. Is there any reason to stay at this…
Month: September 2023
I've noticed a trend amongst my past employers. When I have given notice, they have all expressed surprise at the amount of work I do during my 2 weeks. I realize a lot of this is because many people spend their last 2 weeks doing nothing, but I actually spend the last 2 weeks doing my job. It is an insult at this point for your boss to finally recognize how much you do only because they need to learn to do it.
I started a new job at an office and so far things have been ok but there are some issues. One of the main reasons I really don't like to work in an office setting is because of how long you have to sit still for. Most offices still use the traditional sit-down desks. It kills my back and hip flexors and makes glute muscles atrophy thus worsening the problem. Not to mention that my eyes burn from staring at screens all day. Regular breaks are not an option. And these are considered less physically demanding jobs. Is there any way to work without destroying your body? Anywhere? Im starting to doubt. I still have to spend my paycheck from said job on massages, Chiropractors or physical therapy. its a scam
Everyone is complicit in child labor
In this factual story. We still have child slavery in America and everyone involved looks the other way. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/18/magazine/child-labor-dangerous-jobs.html?unlocked_article_code=UhU3uNH9RwJYw_AeG9GhxZhuQviQfIctgRVG5UC4PX_kOnGLFgb-7V7t6zdzQZBhuodUD_wqkyj4Cd3zaFIKkUzpwrED9rAhffEQmClxGUQ9sSv50_vTybUz40E5XgFIa0jDXpjzqEIVbQ0rGec3fiwqnGc6k2cFbafrszV2b26nzigWY_KqpxdOA4qlhCZd8_Xe2suooR2NIwkzXBJFBPXl6Lkllb0dOejtRUfBO-KpsUe_lMoQmq128kAm6NufsiN_OczmKGx9J3-_5JgBvoCIMg-V9FnU3pJN1mOrtdkdCsOKyrdAD-4du4QIk8rh68FuT0jymw0OEFzIYuX8cRx-6jzb&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
What do people think is the highest paying job/profession for the least amount of work/education/stress. Biggest bang for your buck if u will. Go!
This is a theory only, but…
So, the United States has a history of red-lining and block-busting that ensured pockets of poverty along with pockets of great wealth. We pay taxes based on the geographic area, and how much our property is worth. The taxes pay for the public schools in the area, and this results in great variance in quality of education from one area compared to others. If the area collects lots of taxes, lots of money goes to the schools, the quality of education goes up. There are other factors, such as the population having discretionary income to expose their children to desired experiences such as museums, vacations, extracurricular activities like horse back riding and painting. This also works the opposite way. There are geographic areas that are undesirable, and sell at prices much lower than other, wealthier areas. These areas usually contain pollutants, industrial business, noise pollution, or other less-desirable living environments.…
Being detained at work
I took a really weird job a year ago with a foreign mining company contracted to help the mining company I left after ten years. The company provides hotel rooms and flights on their dime, it's really not a bad gig if you don't mind traveling and high elevation. We all drive a van 20 minutes between the job site and the hotel. On a couple occasions while trying to leave they dropped a steel gate in front of us so we could not leave. Their reason was a on site emergency that could be anything from someone rolling their ankle to someone being run over by a giant truck. They just kept us there, sitting for an hour. I was tired, not being paid and just wanting to leave. I don't like being told I can't leave by anyone, if I was in the driver's seat I might have…
