Employees who work more than the absolute bare minimum not only make things harder for everyone including themselves, they also undermine the entire job market. An employee that works hard and delivers, sets high expectations for both himself and his colleagues. Corporations demand constant growth so if you put x amount of effort, the next year they want you to put 20% more. So you are undermining yourself by doing so. You are also ruining the work environment for all your colleagues because the employer now expects the same if not more from them. However, here’s what makes it even worse. Since you work more and you’re more efficient at what you do, your job can now layoff more employees and push the responsibilities they had onto you. And they do, do that. This dynamic destroys the job market for all those unemployed and seeking a job because companies don’t…
Month: September 2023
I've been stuck in a cycle of awful jobs since I started working. From awful managers, back breaking, soul destroying work and generally being used and then discarded. My last job was advertised as a dispatch operator, with an 'easy' hourly target. What it really was was being forced to lift 40kg boxes for 11 hours a day with no help and with an extremely unrealistic hourly target. After 2 weeks I pulled a muscle in my back. I reported it to a manager and was told I'd have to leave and go to the doctor's, then call and let them know what they said. So I did that. Said the doctor confirmed I'd pulled a muscle and I should rest it but I'd try to be back in on Monday. (Only giving myself 2 days rest). They said okay, shortly after which I was contacted by the agency to…
Being told I can just quit
I was hired for one position and pay. The position itself wasn’t that important to me, but I was told my pay and expected it to be that. When I started there was some confusion because the manager had been out sick and we never actually met. I simply asked if they could confirm my pay. They confirmed my pay but said that I wouldn’t be getting my original hours or position. Again, position irrelevant, but finding out two weeks into a job that I would be getting a day a week from now on i obviously had questions. I expressed that it’s how I survive and just wanted some clarity. I was basically told in different ways in writing that I can just quit. Was even encouraged to update on the job search. I feel like I’m sort of being pushed into quitting my job without wanting to.
Hi! So my company has introduced a new policy of unlimited vacation this year. 40 days are paid while everything above 40 days has to be discussed with the manager and is unpaid. I have taken less than 40 and have always taken the permission of my manager even though i didn’t really have to. I took 37 days for the total year. Last month he already talked about why i took so much days off even thought he himself gave me the permission. I complained to my HR and she said I am totally right to be pissed. I have vacation now since 2 weeks (since the 11.9) and i talked with my manager prior my vacation and i asked him if its okay and if i should postpone my vacation in case there is much work. He told me no its totally fine i can go. 1.5 weeks…
Hey everyone I just need to vent. I work as a biomedical technician for a small hospital. We are a small team, 2 techs and one manager. When I started to work at the hospital my manager would constantly always tell me that when he retires ill be the one taking his place (the other tech is a 70 year old man who's ready to retire to ). So ever since then I busted my ass to learn a lot more than what I already knew and kept the place running smoothly and pretty much tackled everything that has ever been thrown at me for two years now. I know the hospital in and out and know pretty much how to do my managers job as well since I've been doing alot of his work such as writing reports, calling vendors, handling projects, getting quotes, contracts, etc…. Recently the day…
This is a doozy, and I'm still really pissed off about it. Before I continue this story, I did contact the labor department for the state this occured in. This state just sucks for workers rights and it may take months for me to get what I'm owed So! I recently moved states due to unexpected circumstances, and had to quit my job. I sent in an email saying that I would be resigning as of that day, and was pretty sure that would be the end of it. Now, I'm also going to preface this with the state I lived in and had this job I'm referring to in is a At-Will state. I never signed anything other than my I-9, and did not sign anything digitally. Also, this boss/owner was shady with money. The applications on Indeed and such advertised as $15/hour, and then at the interview it…
Got laid off at the end of day today
As the title says, I have been laid off from my job. I worked as a structural welder and have been welding for almost 2 years. Towards the end of the day I was pulled aside and told that I was being laid off along with other individuals. They had my last check ready in hand and told me to collect my things and was escorted off the building. I kinda saw this coming as work has been slowing down as there were only 2 projects going on at the moment. So I guess I have the weekend to enjoy and then search for another job to pay for my bills.
Manager Blocks my schedule
Today I got an appointment added to my schedule for Monday Afternoon. I reached out to the client and asked if I could stop by today as I had an inclination that we could not service the client. I drove my personal vehicle an hour out of the way to meet with said client. After meeting them and talking to them they said “we really appreciate you coming out today and being honest with us and letting us know this is not something you can handle.” As I was leaving I messaged my manager and said please remove my Monday afternoon appointment as it is not something our company can take care of for the client. This was his response: I think that's the only appt you have for the week. Let us know if you self generate any. I'll have them stop scheduling for you until you are ready…
Burner account but i work at a doctors office. Our long time office/MA manager quit. They didn’t tell us why but we know exactly why – the doctor we work for is awful. The doctor has no respect for both patients and staff, as in we see 60-100 patients in the span of 6-7 hours and each staff member makes very little relative to the work we do. The only reason why they’re still in business is bc we’re in a rural area and they’re the only specialist. I describe the doctor as a businessman and not a doctor bc that’s exactly what they are, they see patients as profit. Anyways, manager quit and our other manager who I guess is now promoted literally told us they will not be taking on the other managers work bc they don’t want to???? So now, things like inventory and time sheets are…
