My first job out of college with a printmaking BFA. I worked at a wholesale business card place, think outsource from Kinkos. The owner's wife started doing our payroll at some point. After a while I noticed my paychecks were off. I came and asked, why with time stamped clock card in hand. I figured out that she thought 12:45 was 12.45 hours. I tried telling her that was not how math worked. She would not listen. She said she had done payroll elsewhere and that was how it was done. Tried to get the order pick up drivers on my side. They all looked at me and shrugged. Should have gone and shown the gristly pressmen but alas. (That would have been an awesome lesson in fuck around.) I went to the owner. Douche's dad owned the whole nationwide franchise. He realized she was wrong and corrected our paychecks.…
Month: September 2023
About two months ago, I was given an ultimatum at work. Feel free to read my last post here for context. About two months ago, I was given an ultimatum at work. Feel free to read my last post here for context. First, thank you to everyone who gave me feedback on my last post. Anyway here is my update, I decided against taking them up on the offer for the promotion because the increased commute and the later hours even with the pay raise I was being offered were not worth it to me, especially with just one car. I was fortunate enough to be in a position where I could go a month without working. During this time I applied to a bunch of jobs, enjoyed the time off, and even started hitting the gym again! Since then, I managed to get a great new job which I…
I just filled out look at my resume for a majority of this and if asked if I had anything else to add, put in how it was not time efficient for me or the company to fill this out instead of looking at my resume.

I have been working banquets/catering for a hotel for nearly a year. Me and 3 other ladies were the newest hires. Two of them quit already, part was the new manager. I've learned how to do things but it is also hard to compete with coworkers who have been doing this for 10+ years. But I can carry a tray with ten plates, hold multiple plated, etc. So he brought in some people he used to work with and yeah, they cannot even carry a big tray or move a big cart with stuff on. Yet this manager prefers to give them priority and it's so unfair to the other workers. As I said two quit and the other one is rarely around since she got another job. I like this particular hotel, making some good money but is there anything I can do to get more hours? Manager said…
Boss makes a dollar..
..& I make a dime. That's why I spend 10 minutes a day in the toilet. At the end of the year, that's 43 hours spent browsing reddit. A week's pay! You're welcome!
Seriously, Having the capability to “work as a manager” but at the same time being mentally unstable should be enough reason to cancel each other out. One is a positive and the other is an extreme negative. An aggressive, loud, yelling, verbally abusive boss is not a fit for the job. No matter how much creditonals they have. It's crazy because if employees act how they act we would be deemed “unqualified”… but why do these higher ups get to go on power trips, abuse employees, fly off the handle at every single little insignificant event, and take out their anger issues on the nearest victim? This is coming from a week's worth of BS at my job where our manager has yelled at us over the smallest things: Putting the forks and knives at a 75 degree angle instead of 90 Not taking out the trash at 9:00 on…
Management took our seating
So I work at a franchise auto parts store in bumfuck California. We've always had stools to sit on until today. Management came in and stole the stools overnight. HR said “it was in the contract you signed that I have to stand for 8 hours a day”. Isn't this illegal?
Building the means of production
I'm so tired of working for entitled franchise owners that feel like I should be greatful for my employment, despite only giving me a small percent of their profits. I want to work, I just want to be apreciated for it and compensated apropriately. When I talk to fascists about stuff like this, they say that creating jobs is doing good for the world because they provide a steady paycheck and take the risk… a service they claim many people need Well, personally I dont. My living expenses are very low, and I'm not afraid to cut them further if times get tough. I want to work and build products people need, on behalf of myself and my fellow workers. How does this happen? Could you as an example get together with friends and build a few windmills, sharing the profits over time? Could you build houses with friends, rent…
