Anyone have experiencing navigating getting time off for a trip you planned prior to your employment?

So basically I just started a job, it’s in healthcare but NOT a clinical role. Honestly doesn’t even seem like the role is very necessary in the first place, but I digress. It was advertised to me as a position with self scheduling, so I assumed the short trips I had planned months in advance wouldn’t be an issue. I was clearly wrong about this. I was advised to email my manager by the person training me when I mentioned that I had these planned and booked prior to my employment. I assumed this wouldn’t be an issue, as we work only 3 DAYS per week and these are non refundable trips I booked prior to my employment. I expressed that in my email, as well as said pretty firmly that I would not be available to work these days. One of them is a wedding in which I am…

In need of references

Currently I've been applying to jobs and need references for certain applications. I have the role, company, and experience of the said reference. I'd just need someone to vouch for me if they call essentially. shoot me a dm if this is something that works for you, I would greatly appreciate it.

Interview process for an entry-level role is literal insanity. Have employers completely lost their minds?

My partner is in the process of interviewing for an administrative support position. So far they have gone through one phone and two zoom interviews, and are on the way to the office for an in-person interview. They were just sent an agenda for their interview showing a 90 minute schedule in which they will meet and speak to six people. This is all for a 42k/year admin position. Entry level. Is it just me, or is this utter insanity? I would understand this level of vetting for a management or senior coordinator/developer position, but for an administrative support position this seems beyond ridiculous. From speaking to friends who are also applying to jobs, this level of ridiculous interview circus is becoming more and more common. So, have employers in the US just completely lost their minds? What possible utility can all of this have? Unemployment is still super low…

Is it illegal to be forced to clock in 15 mins early but not get paid for it.

So a company made a rule that staff has to clock in 15 mins before and after you shift to be considered on time. So if you work 6am-2pm you must clock in at 5:45am and clock out at 2:15pm in order to get paid. You are not expected to do anywork during that time. You actually start working at 6am . So basically sitting till your start time. The reasoning is that the actual job site might be 10 min drive from the time clock.

A coworker came to my office and told me that our boss told him to terminate me and escort me out of the office! What would you do?

I was working hard in my office returning one a hundred emails that needed attention and planning for a number of meetings and corporate initiatives. I was swamped and working 60 hours a week. I was the Manager of Operations for a five hundred employee IT Consulting company. My boss and his boss were out of the office for the next few weeks. Suddenly, one of my coworkers- who was slightly higher than me in the organizational chart- came into my office and sat down. He told me that our boss had directed him to terminate me and escort me out of the office. First, I thought he was joking but he assured me that he was serious. At no time was I given any warning or had any indication that my boss was not happy with me. I was relatively new and had only worked there for nine months.…

Rant – I’m stuck

I am not happy. After 5 years on the tools, I took an office role 5 years ago to help create the ‘Customer Services’ department we sorely needed. For my sins I’ve been blessed with the title of ‘Customer Support Engineer’. I am not insulted, for I recognise my own proud history in customer services as a defining chapter of my life (which spurred me onto get my degree, and a technical job in the first place) – but as one of only a few damned employees with the lights still on, I am frustrated that this title is being used to anchor me to a salary that is, to put it frankly – beneath me. I am a project manager, a product specialist, an emotional support pillow for all in need and in truth, nervous wreck owing to the amount of caffeine I require every day to still function.…

Company introducing sales pitches to customer support calls, what can I do to prepare to defend myself and my pay?

I work for a mid level SaaS company in technical support. We get in, talk to people already angry about the software, fix the problem, and get out. It’s been this way for over a year. We have a sales team that handles any upgrades they need to their account. We’re slammed 24/7, as we’re a team of 5 people handling support for the entire application with over 10k users. Corporate invited everyone on our sales team to a meeting titled “Cross-sell Launch: Support team” with promises of “incentive programs” for referrals in the description. I’ve worked enough sales jobs to know what this means. I left sales to get away from KPIs and sale goals. I’m not prepared to do a sales position or be hassled about why I’m not upgrading enough people. I’m already on a lower pay-grade than the rest of the team(I get paid ~$1.80 less…

Seeking Advice After Recent Job Loss: Reflecting on My Journey

Hi, I hope you’re all doing well. I wanted to share a recent experience and seek some guidance from this supportive community. I believe that sharing my story can help me gain valuable insights from your perspectives. I’m 21 years old, currently in university, and have been on quite a rollercoaster lately. I recently found myself in a situation that I didn’t anticipate: getting fired from a sales representative job after just two months. While this was undoubtedly a setback, I want to address it with honesty and a commitment to improvement. I’ll admit that I understand why I was let go from the job – I wasn’t giving it my best effort, and I allowed myself to become a lazy employee. My manager and I parted ways amicably, and he even agreed to be a reference for me if needed in the future, which I’m grateful for. Now, I’m…

Got fired today & I don’t want to find another job

Fuck capitalism. I'm so over this terrible system. I never want to work for another corrupt, disgusting human ever again.
