Portraits from the picket lines of Michigan! The union is fighting for higher wages, an end to tiered wage systems, and to defend jobs as manufacturing shifts from internal combustion engines to batteries. This is the first action since since the ’08 bail-outs, a time when workers took an enormous haircut, losing retirement benefits, including pensions and retiree medical care.Today the big 3 automakers are seeing record profits and engaging in stock buybacks, rampantly rising CEO pay (using Clinton era stock loopholes). The cost of labor on a new car is only 5% of its total cost… It is time to modernize worker pay! These thoughts are my own. I encourage you all to go to the picket lines if possible to hear from workers yourselves, rather than allowing the media to make up your mind. Be active! Www.nikimidwest.com

Just Feeling Burnt Out And Worn Down
So I got told off by my boss again yesterday. Work too slow. But honestly, I have no idea how to even speed up. I'm not slacking, go as fast as I can. (If I rush things I tend to make exponentially more mistakes than normal). I've always been more of a “slow and steady wins the race” kind of person anyway. When I asked for suggestions or guidelines on how to improve or targets to aim for, he just gave me a wishy-washy speech about how it has been a long time since he did it, but he knows how long it should take. And no, there are no quotas or targets. And even if there were for my duties like there are for others here, they only share them and your results in the yearly review. I feel like I'm struggling to do my best and as usual…
some bootlicker on my team went two levels above my head to tell my manager (my boss’s boss) that i talk about compensation too much, that they’re fine with their compensation, and me not being fine with mine is making them feel bad so when i get pulled into a meeting with my manager and he tells me this, i say “i don’t really know what else i’m supposed to do, all i can really do is have is solidarity with my coworkers” he. goes. OFF. says “if everyone were to unionize and strike tomorrow, we’d just hire all new people” and “if you’re not satisfied with your comp, nothing’s stopping you from getting another job”. tells me that if i don’t have ideas on how to improve it, i shouldn’t mention it to anybody but my boss (who wasn’t involved in this discussion at all) and him. once i…
Most people will probably die working
Real talk: Most people will probably never get to retire and never be rich. I used to think it is easy to get rich, too, but as I grew older, as the prices kept increasing yet the wages stagnated and remained frozen, I realized this was all intentional to keep the poor poor and working. If people magically became rich then there would be no incentive to keep wageslaving any more so they would just quit, and how are the billionaire oligarchs going to keep getting richer then? Even degrees don't mean shit these days. They're literally just a checkbox to pre-tick before a human even reads your CV lol.
