Mentality ill people shouldn't work apparently* I'm pretty sure my job fired me for being a “female” and “mentally ill” and I just don't know what to do. The roofing company was based in Portland OR and I understand that Oregon and Washington can fire anyone without reason but the reason the company (let's call the company “mahogany”) fired me for saying I was sleeping during orientation and I wasn't sleeping, there's no cameras in that room and they only have cameras outside at the parking lot. Everyone was sleeping, there was even a guy who kept coming in 30 to 1 hour late every day and he still has his job, the guy next to him was also occasionally sleeping but nobody said anything to him and made jokes about falling asleep. I also referred my partner to this job, I was supposed to start on the 10th but…

Not wanting a raise
My boss and I submitted the budget for 2024 (I’m an accountant) and it has me getting a raise. I just started my career November 2022 after college graduation. To be completely honest the raise is so insignificant it’s like a slap in the face. ADP paycheck calculator said it would be $60 more a paycheck. The reason given in the budget submission under the raises/promotions section was “He has been here a year”. I straight up wanna tell her “I don’t want a raise.” And if she asks why I will say “It’s not worth getting into. Less is more.” Am I crazy or fucked up? I’m looking for a new job. This is bothering me.
So I work at a school district. Today I was told I was flagged for having a “pattern” of repeatedly calling off on Mondays or Fridays. Apparently it’s in our contract that we’re not supposed to “repeatedly call in Mondays or Fridays”. My sick time and personal necessity days haven’t been just on M/F there’s been other days too but I guess it’s been “too much” on M/F. Am I crazy or is this beyond idiotic? Is this just another American-work-work-work type rule that makes no fuckin sense but people have gotten used to it? Like if I feel I’m getting sick I will call in on Friday so I can have Saturday and Sunday as a buffer to recover so I’m back on Monday. But apparently they’d rather I just call out middle of the week for a few days?? Am I crazy or does this not make any…
Overqualified for a promotion
I applied and interviewed for a role that's one level up from my current one at my company. They said I didn't get the job because I was overqualified and they thought I'd be bored. Y'all don't think I'm bored now??
How would $500/mo UBI benefit you?
How would it improve your life if you received a “no questions asked” check for $500 on the first of each month?
I'm in a salaried Director role in IT working remotely. Due to meeting craziness I often block time on my calendar to actually get tasks complete. I emailed my boss throughout the morning today during one of these blocks for feedback/review on some slides I was working on. Around lunch I took 1/2 hour to step away from my laptop. I then attended meetings for 3 hours straight. During one of these meetings, around 2pm my boss messaged me “someone was looking for you and you were offline so they asked me if you were working today”. Are you kidding me? I called him immediately after the meeting I was on to find out more. There wasn't someone else, it was him. Of course I never missed a ping on teams, failed to respond to an email or anything. No one called. He was just letting me know he was…
Pretty much what the title says. We had individual meetings with the plant manager and he pulled me in to tell me that not only will I have to wait an entire year for our new seniority raises the next time mine comes around, but I have to wait an entire extra year before I get my third week of PTO. All because I started January third instead of the first last year. I can not even describe how angry I am with this. I was forced to train myself in my position, the job I have depends entirely on if another person decides to complain when she gets put somewhere she doesn’t like, and now this.
I was offered another job and gave my two weeks at my current job. She responded back that I had to give 30 days and would verify the date. She verified the date, and I told the other place. I signed the offer letter for the new job. I had put in for one day of PTO weeks prior to giving my notice. My boss emailed me today and said she didn't realize that I was off that one day, and I might have to extend my notice by one day. I am beyond irritated right now, and she's the one that approved it. There is absolutely nothing in the handbook that states we cannot use PTO time during our notice period. I am seriously tempted to go drop off everything tomorrow and enjoy some time off before starting my new job.
