My life as a useless warehouse admin

Just over a year ago, I stumbled into the role of “warehouse admin”. I sit on my ass at a desk all day intermittently printing orders for manual laborers in the warehouse to pick. I browse the internet until they come back in, then I print new ones. Occasionally I'll get a phone call from the boss who will give me a random sidequest (ie 'get these items ready for tomorrow', or 'count x'). Then I write it down and give it to the warehouse boys; they come back with the result and I relay it to the boss. They resent me because my job is so easy yet they are all smelly and tired, lifting and packing heavy boxes all day, and they look at me with resentment when I walk out with my clipboard of order notes. Sometimes I feel I should lend a hand during my downtime…

Jewelry Store Interview Nightmare: Unprofessionalism, Uncertainty, and Red Flags

Sorry, it’s a long one. Also throw away account to keep things anonymous. I wanted to share my recent job interview experience with a jewelry store, and I'm feeling pissed off and confused. I'm a 27yo F with a degree in metalwork, and I've been unemployed since May. I reached out to a couple of jewelry stores in my area because I thought it could be a great fit for my skills. One of the stores was hiring, and after an initial interview for a salesperson position, things took an unexpected turn. The woman interviewing me suggested I “audition” to be a bench jeweler, which meant physically crafting the jewelry they sell. I was excited about the opportunity, but some red flags started to pop up during the process. I did the bench test (the “audition”) on June 16th. The first red flag was there was zero ventilation in any…

thoughts on leaving my job

want to reach out to talk about my current situation. i am currently working in a company and i am planning on quitting this job. at first when i started there was flexibility for me to leave early from the office and wfh for the rest of the day. my current job location is pretty far from me (live in nyc, commute to work in nj) and i thought it was manageable as i found my next role. then, we started having some restructuring/reorganizing. we are under a different management, and our new manager has stated we are expect to be in the office for the full shift. i find it useless as what's the point of being here for eight hours, and also i found out someone in my team was complaining to others as to why people leave early. it's gone to the point where my management calls…

Signs you need to quit your job; In no particular order: I am the Everything Man!

I worked at this store, that was part of a chain. Frankly, it was nothing special and it no longer even exists. But at the time, I felt like this was a worthy use of my time and I was making enough to afford rent, groceries, bills and fun money. Except that I secretly hated the job. But I convinced myself to love it, because of whatever I thought I could gain from that attitude. It didn’t work out. I grew up in a family full of carpenters, handymen, vintners, plumbers and realtors. My life was making myself useful and being yelled at like a child. I thought striking out on my own would save me from that, and it worked for a while but not forever. When I needed a job, this place hired me. I was really good with difficult customers, strong from summer construction gigs, knew enough…

Has anyone heard of or had experience with this company?

I am on the job market and recently had a first round interview with a company called AIP Inc. they are basically a marketing company that works with non profits. I don’t recall applying to them as they probably found my info on LinkedIn which is fine. Anyways, during the first round interview they wouldn’t answer basic questions I had about the role (e.g. pay rate, day in life of the position, etc). I was told we would go into depth if I got a second round interview. They were very nice with the response but all I want to know is if someone has had actual experience with this company and if they are worth my time? The online presence is very little and the fact they wouldn’t give me much info about the role is slightly concerning as I’ve not encountered this in interviews nor conducted an interview…

Should I be happy with my raise even though my coworker of the same position got a higher one than mine?

So I just got my raise today, it was 5.42%. In the same department and position my coworker got a raise of 7%. The only differences between us: – we work on different projects – he has been working at my job longer he worked through the ranks, I was hired at the same level as him. – He’s been here 5 years, I’ve been here 1.5 – I am female and he is male – He has an MBA but I don’t think that really matters at our job and he obtained it while working here Other considerations: – We’re in government – We have the same boss who distributed the increase – We both work our ass off – We’ve both been recognized for merit and positive impacts to the department – Our boss sucks lol I guess I should be happy with 5% but inflation was 6.5%…

I put my head down last time…

I worked in a factory two years ago and saw some awful things happen to some really good people. I wasn't confident enough to do anything, that has changed. I just got off the phone with a union organizer and we meet next week. I have more than half of the shops support and an OC meeting Monday. It's time to make change.

Tried to give 4 weeks – they want 6

So I told my supervisor that I was going to put my notice in tomorow. Today we spoke and I clarified that I intended to put in 4 weeks notice. She informed me that in my position I’m required to put in 6 weeks. She then explained since I’m taking a 2 day vacation next week, that I add in an additional 2 days to make my notice, “a full 6 weeks.” If I don’t put in a “full 6 weeks” I won’t have a good reference from this job. I’ve worked here for almost a year, just over a year if I do the 6 week notice. I feel like I’m being blackmailed and my work is being petty. I’m ready to tell them, if I won’t have a good reference I’ll just leave tomorrow. My parents say, “what’s an extra 2 weeks and 2 days” which is a…

My Boss Followed Me on My Lunch Break

Boss Followed Me on My Lunch Break We only go into the office on Thursdays. Since I live out “in-the-sticks”, I usually run errands on my lunch break so I can get better deals on groceries, booze, etc that I normally wouldn’t get in my small town. I walked out of Target today and saw my boss’ car in the back of the parking lot (and you cannot miss this thing, man – he drives a bright yellow Kia Soul with black, slanted stripes – mf is drivin’ a fuggin’ bumblebee). Anyway, thought it was a little weird but also thought, ya know, maybe he needed something at Target too? Ran across town to get (way cheaper!) gas, saw him pull through the parking lot then leave. Okkkk… Next stop, liquor store (for the game tonight/weekend). Walked out, his car is behind the store, barely visible, but there. Dude is…
