Month: September 2023
I've been sick since Tuesday and getting sicker every day. Last night I sweated through my bedsheets and had to change them at 2 a.m. I work in construction where they always come to work sick and the owners don't believe in taking time off for illness. I have been coughing, sneezing, and taking my inhaler all day. I also have a splitting headache so I decided to take a home COVID test and it was positive. So was the second test. This just happened like two hours ago. I informed my coworkers and they laughed. “Covid is not a big deal anymore.” I am wearing a mask and they keep making fun of me for it. I luckily am able to take tomorrow off and use Fri, Sat, and Sun to recover. I am just shocked that they don't give two fucks. What about their loved ones or immunocompromised…
Laid off after workman’s comp
So I injured my ankle at work(HVAC) I’m in the union so I let my boss know when I got hurt and went straight to ER I actually cut a tendon and needed stitches. Workman’s comp was approved, they put me on light duty within a week but job said there’s no work for me(can’t drive a car with bad foot) so after a month Dr finally releases me on full duty but now my company is saying work is slow and ther is no work for me and I’m getting laid off. Anything I can do? Or just fck em and move on.
Layoffs are here should I jump ship?
Recently, layoffs occurred, and I managed to retain my position. With just a few months left until my two-year mark, it seems like the layoffs might persist. I've already updated my resume and I'm contemplating applying for new job opportunities that both interest me and offer a higher salary. While I genuinely enjoy working with my current team, I'm torn about whether to make a move. I do have an emergency fund saved up, but I'm also hesitant to wait around for potential job instability. What are your thoughts on this situation?”
PTO is a prize to win…
This was in an email I received today. It’s a great incentive to participate in their mental health forum but I wish I didn’t have to win a work/life balance. Sort of depressing…
As soon as I relaxed I was fired
I have always been on edge working for companies in the US. Everyone jokes about the panic you feel when a manager asks to speak with you privately, but it is very real. TLDR: I got fired as soon as I relaxed and was gearing up for the next season. I was hired as a contractor with the option to extend my contract indefinitely. I was treated like a temp with the option to hire. Ok that's fine, not my first time working such a job. Only this time I was working in field I wanted to be in. I enjoyed the job. I worked hard, I learned as much as I could as often as I could. I was told over and over that they don't just let contractors go out of the blue. They renewed my contract in July and I considered letting go of the other side…
I work at a paint store and after noon the stores basically dead. you can expect a minimum of 3-4 hrs doing nothing working a 8 hr shift. Previously I worked at amazon for $2 more an hour which was absolutely nonstop work. I can confidently say i’m never entering that kind of workspace again. Do you guys prefer jobs with a lot downtime or prefer to be kept busy?
Some background/context before I get to my question: So we’ve had a new CEO hired over the past year at the company I work for. Old CEO retired & is now on the Board. The company has been around for a little over 10 years. Annual revenue is approximately $400 million. We haven’t met our revenue goals for the past few years. There were layoffs of several individual contributors and also a restructuring within the past year in which several leadership positions were eliminated because the new CEO wanted “to reduce overhead because those roles were deemed redundant.” Typical corporate talk track. Now to the plan that I have a question about: Our new CEO has a plan to grow the company 3 times larger in 3 years. Myself and many of my coworkers feel like this is ludicrous and unrealistic & feels like a corporate dick measuring contest. Are…
I really need some advice I’m struggling
Hello all. I've been lurking in this sub for some time now. I need some advice as to what I can do for work as I just recently reached breaking point. I just burst into tears next to my wife on the sofa because work has got me so depressed I'm a UK resident and currently work in construction. I have had jobs in landscaping and residential child care (like a foster home for those of you in the US). I hated them all not because of the work, but the people at work. The managers and fellow colleagues who would just constantly be awful. But the thing that gets me most.. I really missed my wife and kids. I'm looking for a job that I can do that will allow me to spend some time with my family and that maybe doesn't have a lot of people involved. If…
