Family. Teams. Partnerships. Such bullshit titles for work

I was using Microsoft Teams and realized what a stupid name for that program. Team? We aren't teammates, we are coworkers, and this isn't a game, it's my livelihood. And then there's the family bullshit talk we get in company meetings. We've all heard them. Last week we had two workers fired. So much for family. We aren't family. We aren't a team. This is strictly a business relationship where I will leave for better opportunities just like you would fire me for a worker who will accept a lower pay for the same output

Just found out about my Brother’s workplace has a sketchy “attendance bonus”

He works for one of the top 5 largest employers in our area and it's one of the few that pays more that the standard $15-16 an hour. He was telling me yesterday how he needed to go out to Uber since his check was going to be low this pay period (2 weeks). Apparently these clowns advertise paying $18.50 an hour, but $4 of that is an “attendance bonus” which they will retroactively remove from the entire pay period if you clock in 1 minute late. How is that shit legal?

“Overpaid” and then company starts garnishing wages to retrieve….but I don’t work there anymore. One little victory.

So I worked at a Steakhouse that prided itself on being a family company and having the best steaks. Well, they were sorta truthful. They had great quality steaks….that they would throw onto cheap pasta, add crappy prepackaged sauces and poorly cooked sides and extras. Expensive and busy, I made good money. But the place was and still is a mess. Three head chefs quit in a 3 year span. 7 front of house managers, the sous chef and all supervisors have turned. Only the General Manager and a lacky are there now as originals. So as the pandemic was slowing down last Feb, I noticed a cook sneeze all over an order. He had a mask on. But that's it. Didn't cover his mouth, and almost seemed to be exaggerating and adding more 'oomph' to his sneeze – which again was above an order about to be sent out.…

Waiting on Pre-Employment drug screen

I live in a state where weed is legal. Quitting to be able to get a job. I just don’t get it, why do I have to feel like a criminal or that I’m hiding things in order to have a corporate desk job? It’s been 3 days and I’m still waiting to see what they say. I can’t ask the recruiter what’s going on without looking like I’m hiding it. I know I will show up positive for weed so I’m curious what they will say. No criminal history, no other drugs, but marijuana in my system? I must be a piece of shit who doesn’t deserve a job.

I feel guilty for hating my job so much

I'll (24m) begin with a backstory to give context to my guilt: (apologies for the rant) I come from a long line of extremely hardworking people. Below, I'll give a background on a few. My grandfather was born into a poor farming family in the mountains of Greece. He had to stop going to school in 4th grade because he didn't have shoes, and it would be infeasible for him to walk 6 miles to school every day while tearing his feet up on rocks, so he herded sheep for his family and helped however he could on the farm. When he left Greece, he was 22 years old. After completing his mandatory military service, he boarded a ship along with his 8 brothers and set sail to Canada. He had 5 dollars in his pocket, didn't speak a word of English or French, and had very little formal education.…

When I worked for Walmart I would give the customers I liked extra items in their order.

We’d get regulars that would always order groceries and I would notice their name tag from the order. my job was to pick their food and other grocery items, well the customers that I really liked I would put free stuff in their bags sometimes doubles of what they order other times expensive items too.

Gave my two weeks and got cursed at

I've been working at a “mom and pop” company in NYC for a year, earning a meager $40,000 annually. To provide some context, this company generates over $30 million in revenue, yet offers no benefits, a toxic work environment, and no work culture. The poor warehouse workers (who are mainly Hispanic) are treated like slaves and it pisses me off. In addition, the owners (who are pushing 80) would police the office workers from speaking in our native tongue to prevent gossip. Yesterday, I finally decided to quit after landing a fully remote job offer that's more than double my current salary and includes benefits like 401k and health insurance. I handed in my two weeks' notice, but my manager had a shocking reaction – she cursed at me and accused me of using the company as a stepping stone in my career. “this is so f***ed up” /…

I Have to Quit My Job

I guess I'm just looking to vent a little here. I have been working in an industry I'm passionate about but this job in sales has been toxic AF. Even on good days, this job has been utterly draining on my energy, and after almost 2 years, my health is declining in an unavoidable way. I am terrified of leaving. I have been trying to line something up and had several job interviews, but haven't been able to lock anything in. I am considering going back to work for a while in retail or serving in a restaurant part time to try and recover for a bit, but then I won't have insurance. Part of the only reason I stayed for this long is for the benefits and now I feel trapped. I have been taking classes on the side to hopefully get into a new industry (tech); working full…

I’m the lowest paid person in my company and one of the only women

I accepted a “specialist” position for what I knew was low pay because I thought it would be great experience and resume building. This was 8 months ago. I had to get a second job to support myself. Now, I’m running out of steam. I found out two men in my department, who are equals to me in their positions, get paid more than me. Only one has been there longer than me. I’m 40hrs/week, no benefits, PTO, sick days, nothing. I tested positive for the flu and was lectured on how I need to “make it work”. So I masked up and went in to work this week until I started barfing and went home. Some of my tasks this week involved physical labor. I found out another person in the company has the flu last week and was given a week off and lots of sympathy. I was…
