My ~social justice oriented~ therapy practice is obsessed with exploiting their employees

I don’t even work for a non-profit and I’m struggling to get by. Theres this idea in the mental health world (at least for people with social work background) that private practice is selling out. I used to have a friend who worked at a non profit who made jokes about how I should pick up the check when we went out because I was making “that private practice money”. Right now I make around $2400/month in a large urban area with a high cost of living. I was making slightly more by overworking myself and having zero time boundaries, but I started burning out and having literal physical pain from the stress, so I had to scale it back. I work for a “progressive” therapy practice that talks big game about social justice issues – all of their employees are struggling to get by. The practice takes a 60%…

My asshole boss loves 5 alarm fires

While it shouldn’t, it has not ceased to amaze me how much my asshole boss loves to create their own fucking problems / be negligent enough to manifest ‘em then be astonished when I don’t have a solution for them at the drop of a hat. Who the fuck is giving these idiots money to even start these businesses? Just kidding, I know it’s their parents. Sorry, that’s it. I know it’s vague. It’s been a real sewer of a day.

What do you think “Nobody wants to work anymore” means?

It's a clickbait title vague enough to mean differently to everyone on why they don't want to work anymore. My mom, a manager, thinks it means people are too lazy or tired to work anymore. My sister, a hiring staff, thinks it means people don't want to work with a low wage. My boss, at another company, thinks people lack discipline and commitment. Me, a intern, thinks people don't want to be exploited anymore. (Ex: customers, supervisors, mamagers, corporate, etc.) What do you think it means?

Can someone cover what at will employment means for someone in a protected class?

From my understanding….at will employment means you can quit whenever you want, two weeks notice or not. Goes both ways, you can also be let go at any given time, with no reason given. If that’s true, then why do people act like those in a protected class are untouchable? Instead of firing someone because they are pregnant, can’t that person just be let go for no reason given? It’s just sort of funny how someone can quit whenever they want and it’s highly praised here, especially with no notice, but then when someone is let go so many replies say things like “get a lawyer!”

Can colleagues be friends

I made a really good friend at work and shared most things with her but got to know it’s not the same from her end. She says in the end we are coworkers and would be different if we had met outside. It is a fair point however just taken aback about sharing things candidly with her so it was always one sided

Hell’s Kitchen Employees Allege Gordon Ramsay Restaurant Segregated Black Diners – Washingtonian

Woah, and to hear that Gordon Ramsey's Corporate HR is now going after these servers and attempting to silence them. Yet customer's are now coming out on Instagram. Question To All r/antiwork Restaurant Servers, waiters/waitresses, staff, management, have you ever been treated similar by the restaurant owner class you worked for. It seems Unions for American restaurant workers are very rare. What power do restaurant labor/staff even have in your experience? Is this common in many US restaurants? I worked with a guy who used to be a short order cook at many local restaurants and the items he told me on treatment were beyond horrid. I've never worked in a restaurant and know very little. Thank you all for youe incredible knowledge in advance.

Working hours are close to 12 hours a day because CEO feels it’ll increase productivity

I've been working for this company where working hours were close to 10 hours a day, 5 days a week and as if things weren't bad enough one fine day the founder and co founder announced that we'll be working 11 hours a day from now ( which easily goes past 11) just because other companies are doing 20% more work than us and we need to match that level of productivity. On top of that the total number of leaves got cut short, no increment in salary, meetings have been kept early in the morning soo that people show up on time but hey atleast they gave us health insurance now.
