This went down this week in Chicago—is any of this legal? https://www.reddit.com/r/IATSE/comments/16had9y/my_local_is_freezing_our_hw_hours/

I(24m) work a financial-based 8:30-5 office job. My boss is kind and I have respect for her, and my pay is not bad for a first job with great benefits. Out of nowhere, she called me into her office and announced to me that I'll be issued a work phone and expected to be on call after work and on weekends starting next week. This was not in my job description and not in my contract. I wasn't sure what to do so I just sat there and nodded in confirmation that I understood her expectations. What should I do?
How to teach the ways of the office?
Hi Folks My Girlfriend worked all her working life in retail at a bookstore (where you lose all faith in humanity) and managed to get a job in an office. I tried to teach her the ways of the bullshit office politics. But I do a bad job. In retail, the abuse is so rampant, and you can't escape the customers that you have no concept of idling. I try to teach her that being idle is key in the office in order to not burnout, but she is just so insanely productive. She said when it is 16:45 and there are 14 unanswered emails, she can't let it go and just not do it. In the office, people stop working at 15:00 at the latest and start faking and everything is basically a giant show of bulshittery, but she can't wrap her head around this concept. Do you have…

$3000 less than promised
My wife is a Nursing Clinical Instructor for a nearby college. When she “applied” she was quickly hired after simply presenting her credentials and received an email saying how much she would receive for the semester. She is now two weeks into the semester with a group of nursing students and has yet to be paid. After reaching out about payment she has now been told she will be receiving $3,000 less than what she was originally told. What should she do?
Glassdoor is not your friend
Glassdoor claims its anonymous but if you check the source code, anyone can view the email of the person who posted a review. Ive heard of several people from various HR who track this.
How to get a manager fired
Technically, he’s just an assistant manager. Our team is divided into three groups and each group has some sort of a leader aka assistant manager. They are called assistant manager because they don’t have HR powers and only lead projects. There are three of us under this AM and he sort of leads three projects, where in each of us separately work. But he is aweful. He doesn’t know project management. He’s not technically brilliant either that we don’t rely on him to come up with a solution we haven’t already thought ourselves. Anyway, all three of us agree that he’s just a bad manager and leader. He works hard, if you call having meetings everyday work, but he doesn’t know how to lead. He doesn’t set a goal but always assign tasks. I feel bad for our other two team mates because they are younger and just do what…
Corporate lawyer checking in, just got out of a fun seminar for some California continuing education, which included a good bit on the importance of handling unions correctly. As a union family I couldn't help laughing from behind the corporate mask the whole time. tl;dr: it's easier than ever to form a union, and if your employer makes big enough mistakes in handling your attempt to unionize, the NLRD will default them into recognizing the union. We recently had the Cemex decision: https://www.nlrb.gov/news-outreach/news-story/board-issues-decision-announcing-new-framework-for-union-representation when a union requests recognition on the basis that a majority of employees in an appropriate bargaining unit have designated the union as their representative, an employer must either recognize and bargain with the union or promptly file an RM petition seeking an election. However, if an employer who seeks an election commits any unfair labor practice that would require setting aside the election, the petition will…
Do they even want to hire?!
Rant here but over the last 2 months I have interviewed for 5 positions where I met requirements, asked below high end salary range, and not only was ghosted but they reposted the position. It is cool you did not choose me but how the hell do you need someome ASAP, waste mine and others and managers times to interview 6 or more people then decide you want a unicorn. Like, what even is this world?
