I had to leave my job due to a health issue. Due to FMLA i had to provide “appropriate notice” how the hell do u provide notice when its a major health issue that happens over night. Went from a slight stomach ache to lots of blood in my stool and curling up into the fetal position for hours. And since i technically quit my job, in ohio, u cant file for unemployment if u quit. U have to be fired. My girlfriend got injured at her job and was collecting workers comp but, since she delayed surgery so much, they arent gonna pay out anymore and shes not sure she can even get the surgery. The next step would be homelessness. Which i dont care anymore, as long as i dont have to contribute to this dying system. But my parents “raised me better than that” so they pay…
Month: September 2023
I work at a company that sells appliances to casinos, airports, and chain restaurants that sell ice cream. I thought I landed a cushy gig suited to my skills. The products that my company sell are utter garbage. Endless phone calls from unhappy customers. My owner is utterly clueless. My supervisor, despite his 30 years of experience, is petty, short sighted, and lacks any semblance of customer service skills or technical knowledge. I punch in, collect my pay, punch out. Nobody expects much of me. I don't have any sort of agency. Despite being knowledgeable and capable I have to ask for permission for everything. Most days, I just mess around on reddit to pass the time. Most days I just pray that my supervisor dies from his terminal illness so I can take over and steer the company in the right direction. How messed up is that? That I…
ADA accommodation
Frustrated about my work and asking for accommodations for carpal tunnel, that I’m pretty sure my work gave me. I work a production type of environment and I’ve been there 7 years. The tasks are mundane and super repetitive. I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel several months ago in both hands after having an EMG/ NCS test done. Under ADA, carpal tunnel falls under the cumulative trauma category and so I went to askjan.com for accommodation ideas because for about a year now half of the things I handle or touch cause me some hand pain, especially in thumbs, I also experience some numbness in fingers from time to time but my wrist and forearm seem to flare up and have some pain when I’m doing things for extended periods. I had attempted to ask for some of these accommodations and my boss blew it off. I then went to…
Laid off notice
For context, I had a short stint as an asistant manager in a long term care home in Ottawa Ontario. It was in the recreation department and a contract. I was having a great experience then I get notice of a lay off this week. I was shocked because I had good feedback from everyone. The reason budget cuts. Aside from getting EI any other tips? Is calling in sick the way? Is using personsl days the way? Mentally this week has been stressful and taxing. I am glad I went on holiday before hand but, I think it will be tough to bounce back this time. The job market is wild at the moment.
Question for the group.
I've seen posts recently about people not taking any holidays (annual leave/pto). Give me you worst Americans tell me how long you have gone without taking an paid time off. As a European I start to feel like a nervous breakdown is close if I go a month without at least squeezing in a long weekend. I'm very much a work to live typa person.
I got the job earlier in the year and it was required to work 2 days in the office. The pay is low but I thought I could learn some valuable skills in the job. Everyone else in my team works from home completely minus me and my boss for my training period. It's passed the 6 months mark and I'm feeling like I don't need to be in the office twice a week at all tbh. I wanted to work remotely bc I am starting a second job next week that's 20 hrs a week bc I need to pay my bills and it's good money. I'm currently living with my parents and I'm commuting and we live in a location in which I can commute to the office. But we're getting priced out of the area I basically grew up in and my parents are looking to move…
Why are job applications so annoying?
Seriously. Just have your HR department or rep or whoever the fuck leave a phone number and hours to call. Why the fuck do I have to waste 5-10 minutes filling this bullshit out when it takes 1-2 minutes to buy a gun and rob the place instead.
The joys of not being paid!
So I come to everyone with my first post on here. I started a new job on the 28th of last month, part time cleaning for £770 a month. Hours suit me as I'm home for 9.45am most mornings and I got the day to piss around and do what ever. Now the only problem I have is they haven't paid me! Supposed to be a “week in hand” as they stated at the start but here I am, 3rd week in and nothing. My question to everyone here is, what should I do? I have been in this situation before and everything is telling me to walk away as I'm burning bridges, as in my eyes they have disrespected me and my time. But a part of me knows I can't afford to not be out of work again. So I'll pass it to everyone here and check back…
