I work in a soul-crushing family-owned business which I have been with for over 9 years. Over the course of my tenure here I've worked toward effectively making work easier and cheaper for the company. Unfortunately, my higher-ups don't see the department as an important role since we don't generate money. As a manager, I have no authority to make any technical-related decisions without first getting approval from various parties. So my Yearly hire date hits October 2nd and my 2 weeks of leave renews at that time. I have another job lined up on October 3rd and I’m quitting on the 2nd. The state of CA says that companies have to pay out accrued leave whether upon termination or resignation. Are there any concerns I need to worry about for them to not pay my leave out? To add, family owned business not a huge corporation TIA

Besides getting paid for your labor, are there any small pleasures that make your job a little less awful? My work place is only 10min away from my home so I always go and walk my dog on my lunch break. Also, since it's in the construction field, I don't have to dress up. I wear leggings and a T-shirt with sneakers daily. While I hate most aspects of this place, those two things make it bearable. How about you?

Florida makes it really hard to claim missing wages, what should I do? contact the company and make a professional email asking for them to give me the money before I escalate it? Or should I make a small claims? Like it’s only a few hundred dollars but I was let go for no reason and I will not except not getting my money. I earned and worked for that. I’m not working for free.! Mind you this was a REALLY SHITTY retail store. Probably lowest you can go when it comes to pay and respect.

got a new coworker. at first it wasn’t an issue but now it feels like this person is starting to throw jabs at me for not keeping up with them and also humble bragging about all the extra stuff they’re doing. i’m currently just ignoring this person whenever the conversation becomes about them and how extra they are. feels like it’s kind of working, but every now and then this person would get a second wind. checking in here to see how others have dealt with these types. tysm.

The first day of work, these are the questions the coworkers ask me before asking my name: “ Hi I’m 40 years old, how old are you?” “ Hi I’m gay” I seriously think these people have mental issues.

I work on a Learning and Development team as a policy writer. Each year I receive an annual bonus based on performance. A year and a half ago, after the ENTIRE training team quit due to return-to-office issues, I offered to step up and facilitate training to be a team player until new trainers could be brought on. (I’m fortunate enough to be fully remote.) As a thank you, I received over 100% of my bonus that year, I got like an extra 6%. Yay great, right? This year, when going over bonuses, they deducted 6% from the bonus because I received “extra” last year. They played stupid, as if this was something I should’ve expected the whole time.
