My husband was interviewing for a Sales Manager role at a local radio station. The owner put him through four interviews over the course of a month before finally making him an offer. He was hired to be the person in charge of the sales team, he was given a salary plus bonuses based on his own sales and the collective of those of his team. For the first three months, he was thriving. He was going above and beyond the goals, he was motivating and educating his team in improving themselves so well that they were also exceeding their goals. He had tons of connections in the community and was constantly generating new leads, new interest. Right out the gate, he was making the highest bonuses possible for his performance. The numbers showed how he was going above and beyond in how he and his sales team were performing.…
Month: September 2023
I recently started a maintenance mechanic job at a large food condiment manufacturer. Union shop, annual tool allowance, good benefits, and the pay is not awesome for the field but not way out of market either. For the first 8 weeks I'm in training and my schedule is typical 8 hour shifts, M-F. I got told I'd likely go to 12s after training, but that isn't that odd. What didn't get mentioned was that it would be 12s M-F AND 8s on the weekends. 7 day schedule. If you work 6 straight you qualify for a “day of rest” but you need to submit a form requesting the day and offer multiple choices for the day you want because you might not get your initially requested day. One of the more senior guys said he's been scheduled 7 days a week for 3 years straight now. Another told me he…
I work in a small laboratory inside a cancer center drawing blood. My coworker found out a patient was infested with bed bugs while attempting to draw him. They closed down the exam room he was in as the keep finding more in there. Our lab/draw station is not much bigger than the exam room and there were definitely bugs spotted in here as well. My boss is pretty nonchalant about the entire situation and wants us to continue seeing patients in here. What do I do here?
just called the temp agency i've been using for almost a year to try and snag a full-time gig. they look me up in their system, talk me through some opportunities, we pick one, and then she asks me to come downtown tomorrow for an interview and paperwork in their office. me: the [business i'll be working] office? her: no, the temp agency office. we need a bg check and your ID / w2. me: don't you have that on file already? her: well, yes…. but we want to make sure you can dress appropriately and make it on time, so we still need you to come in tomorrow for the interview. me: i've worked for you guys for almost a year…… you know i can do this. i'm not trying to drive across town for something that can be done over the phone. would you be able to transfer…
Job interview at work
So I have an interview on my lunch break for a management position at a healthcare type facility. It’s connecting people with caregivers. I’ve always been a customer service rep & I just feel like I’ve outgrown this position. I’m currently working in DME & the way my boss favors people & doesn’t really hear me when I speak to him just has me out seeing what else is available.. (a lot has gone on but that’s another rant).. so basically I’m trying to see what are things interviewers are looking to hear from someone applying to be a manager without management experience. I will be telling them how every time my job is left without a manager I am the person asked to take over the role but does anyone have any advice on key words or anything that may help me out ? I’m ready for more! I’m…
Viva la revolución
I could be in an echo chamber, but I really think more people in the US are waking up to the fact that we live in a capitalist hellscape. Everything sucks. I’ve had friends in their 20s illegally fired for their disabilities, but the labor law offices in the area have waiting lists years long. And that’s just one example. WHAT do we DO? I’m ready to do what is necessary, but I am afraid to work alone. Strikes, protests, etc only work when everyone or most people are on board. How does one stage a walkout? Where is the best place to gather for a protest? Who is ready for action BEYOND protests and walkouts? Because I am! But I’m not sure what the next step should be.
I'm a server with your average micro manager for a GM. Walked in to work today to find out that our GM sent home the entire kitchen staff because they were a few minutes late to open. He is currently doing all the kitchen work with one other person who is currently training. Food wait times are 20+ mins for a burger but it hasn't effected my tips much so I've been staying. But I'm seriously considering walking out to find a new job. I was already on the lookout for a new one so I wouldn't mind it much. I don't want to work for a dictator or someone who allows their ego to negatively effect their workers wages.
Ive been working as an assistant to a Criminal/Civil defence lawyer for about 3 months now, and I already want to quit so badly. It isn’t even that tough of a job, and it’s only 3 days a week… but I still find myself so drained. I have very high anxiety, and my boss is a very intense person who is VERY bad at communication. Every Sunday, I just feel so much dread that I have to get up and go to work. The whole day, my chest hurts, I feel restless, I can’t stop worrying about what I might mess up next. I have no previous experience in working in a law firm or as a legal clerk, and my boss never trained me in anything. He basically just says something along the lines of “do an (any legal document), serve it and file it with the court”. Then…
Maybe i’m just overly paranoid
