so my boss isn’t giving me all my hours. i been thinking i’m not getting payed enough to do this but this one time i decided to check she gave me 62 hours instead of 72 which is now much i worked. i also asked her for all my pto because i told her i had stuff i needed to pay. past employees also worked up there but quit about a month ago and neither one of them got their pto after asking for it when they quit. what should i do? i’m new to “work” so idk how i would approach this situation or what i can do about it because she won’t fix it.. she’s just that way, she’ll push it off until everyone forgets. i plan on finding a new job soon but while i’m still at this job i want to get payed for my work.…
Month: September 2023
I was a freelance videographer from 2017-2023. I was making good income until Covid hit in 2020, income went to almost nothing and I lived off savings from 2020-2023. I got clients again but nowhere close to what I was at before. I finally went back and got a normal 9-5 job. My supervisor of course asked me about this in my interview and one of her questions was “are you looking to be here long term or are you just looking to make some money until you get going again?” I said long term because I need a job; probably wouldn’t have been hired otherwise. (Also note this is a boring desk job unrelated to videography). It’s only on my resume because I have to explain a 6 year gap. Though if I ever got wind in my sails that I could go freelance again, I would. Supervisor now…
My company is doing its annual employee feedback survey, and they said if we hit 85% participation in it, we get a pizza party. Been daily emails and a couple intercom reminders, and as of the most recent numbers sent out a few minutes ago, the survey has barely broken 70% participation. Today is the last day to do the survey, and I don't see a sudden influx of well over a hundred people suddenly doing it now if they haven't at any point earlier this week. Maybe it's just me, but had they offered a couple hours of PTO or said we could cut out early on a Friday as a reward, they'd have reached their participation goal easily.
“Hey Mr. Billionaire, if you pay me well I can squeeze more work from your employee” “Give me a bonus and I will figure out a legal way for you to avoid paying taxes”. “Pay me a bundle and I will find ways to make congressman X vote for this law that benefits you even though ir screws his constituents.” We got the crumbs, they got all the meat, everyone else just watches.
Hello, Burner account obviously. I'm in my 20s, working at one of the international companies in the USA, in a junior position related to IT and finance. I've had about 2.5 years of experience before joining this summer, and my work at this company so far has been quite strange. First, I have a “mentor” who checks in with me occasionally to ask how I'm doing. However, when I point out a problem, the response is usually along the lines of “I hope it resolves for you! Good luck.” My direct manager didn't have a conversation with me until 1.5 months into the job because he was on PTO or working remotely (we have hybrid setting). This delayed communication made it challenging to get a clear understanding of my responsibilities. I did have some tutorials from a senior colleague about how to work and what to do. These sessions occurred…
I basically apply to every job I'm qualified for with the same resume, and same skills. But I feel like I would have more of a chance, if I took my time and tailored my skills section, job descriptions to closer match the job I'm applying for. But truly I have no idea. I don't know how employers find the right candidate. In my mind, being the first, or among the first to apply gives me a better shot. But I've also heard that employers use resume filters to find the right candidate. I need a new approach, because I'm tired of getting rejection letters.
The last 3 interviews I've had, I've been completely ghosted, even with multiple follow ups. 2 of them were just with the recruiter as an initial screening, both ghosted completely even with a follow up. The third I had a recruiter screening and an hour long interview with the hiring manager. Sent thank you letters afterwards to both, with no response. Didnt hear anything for a week, followed up with the recruiter, she mentioned that she was speaking to the hiring manager in a few days, and would follow up after that. Another week goes by, and I follow up again, this time with both the recruiter and hiring manager. Absolutely no response. A few weeks later, I see the job reposted on LinkedIn, so I send a last message to the recruiter, with a note saying I saw it reposted, and if you havent found anyone yet, I would…
$400 a minute. MINUTE!
Citi CEO Jane Fraser is talking about getting “leaner” and “unlocking the value of Citi…” Of course, delivering growth and executing organizational change means layoffs. During this process, she had no problem taking a 8.9% raise and makes $24.5 million, or to put it into perspective for us commoners, that’s $192,000 for an 8 hour day. Even better, $400 a minute, every hour of every day, for 365. I’m sure it’s well deserved.
