I work remotely doing customer/tech support, I asked my company if it was possible to work part time because I'm looking into doing a language course for the country I'm in right now, this is a necessary course but it's not something I need to do urgently. They tell me that it's not possible to work part time in this role and I tell them that's fine, I will stay on full time until further notice. A few days later I am informed that due to a 'restructuring' I am being let go from the company, I see that they have put out a job advertisement for my role on the same day I asked about part time work. This is a company I have worked for for 3+ years on 2 different projects, I've never had a written warning or anything like like, just a couple of minor clashes…
Month: September 2023
Imfind myself frequently encountering difficult customers, some of whom display aggressive and rude behavior. Adding to the complexity, my immediate manager who usually has my back with difficult and hostile customers, often leaves hours before my shift ends, leaving me alone to handle these confrontations. To make matters worse, there's an older gentleman who consistently exhibits hostile and disrespectful behavior towards me, especially when dealing with his payments. Despite expressing my concerns to one of the main managers, the response from him is rather dismissive, suggesting I treat him as if he were my grandpa. This same manager, I have realized, consistently demonstrates a lack of backbone and is excessively passive when it comes to addressing abusive customers. This manager's approach seems more focused on appeasing the customer than providing me with the support and defense I need.Whenever customers start yelling at me or behaving rudely, this manager rarely intervenes.…
It's not criminal, and most of the time the employees there get to eat the food. If everyone here took 10 minutes go do this once or twice a day. Order up a good $70 worth of shit (which it's ridiculous how little food that is these days), then just wait a few seconds until it's being made, leave.
I fell at work and got written up for it
Title basically says it all. I fell at work and I got written up for “horse play”. Can I sue or something? Like how can they write me up for something like that.
Since when did work become a team sport?
So my boss likes to use words like team your team instead of co-workers. I mean when or if I get fired the team doesn't get fired just me or just someone else does. Work is not a “team” sport.
I worked for some high profile engineering consulting companies and it was not like it used to be in the early 2010. Back then there was order and well maintained process to doing things. Multiple groups took their time and managed projects well. Deadlines where met and people went to work and left on time. Now companies have zero training in place, the training is being given my staff that currently stayed with the company. The turn over rate is much higher and the ones that have to give training are new to the company as well. People are working longer hours, and the effort is more due to low staff, there are more people giving orders than people actually producing. The older senior positions are waiting to retire, while the young new grad staff are over stressed with learning and doing more than what they need to. The staff…
I work in a retail industry that everyone thinks would be wondrous to work in but it's hell. It's corporate greed and incompetence x1000. They're brutal union busters, there's NO opportunity to advance, I make them tens of thousands every single day and only see about $100 of it maximum. The corporate hates all of us and it's so short staffed that I feel physically ill from the stress when I work. We serve 1000+ customers a day and sometimes it's only 3-5 of us working. Today I had a line of 100+ people and only 2 registers, and no chance of help. I had customers yelling at me, demanding more staff like I make the schedule, saying I need to hurry up, etc. The company has told us all we're all skilless and worthless and we will never find another job that pays like this place. Even though it…
These benefits are too good to pass up.
ABC News “The automakers, for their part, emphasize that their foreign competitors pay their workers much less. Including benefits, workers at the Detroit 3 automakers receive around $60 an hour, according to Harry Katz, a labor professor at Cornell University. At foreign-based automakers with U.S. factories, the compensation is about $40 to $45.” vs CBS News “Individual auto workers' pay varies depending on their tenure at a car manufacturer. Under the industry's tiered wage system, more recent hires start at lower rates of pay than longer-tenured workers. Top-tier workers — meaning anyone who joined the company in 2007 or earlier — make roughly $33 an hour on average, contract summaries for the Big Three show. Those hired after 2007 are part of the lower tier and earn up to $17 an hour based on a buildup of 6% annual raises under the last contract.” Doesn’t add up to me. How…
