I declined insurance I was eligible for. Found out a year later I’ve been paying for it

In July 2022, my then employer called me when I was on vacation telling me I'm eligible for insurance now that I've worked at the company for over 3 years. I declined because I'm still covered on my Dad's plan until I turn 26 (I'm 23 now, 22 then). He understood, and I thought that would be the end of it. Fast forward to September 2023, I get a letter in the mail saying my employer won't pay my healthcare coverage for my 2 week vacation in July 2023. I'm confused because I thought I never signed up for insurance. Next day I go into work, my current employer (old one left 4 months ago) wasn't there, so I ask the assistant manager to check if I have insurance. Turns out I do. I didn't even know what company it was, never received paper work or cards in the mail,…

Capitalism really brainwashes people

Saw a post where a guy said he was getting paid for doing nothing aka he was working like a ceo He felt GUILTY… and QUIT to get a different job that gives him MORE WORK… The pay increase was minimal (not worth it) He said he felt unfulfilled LOL People are actively looking to be exploited What a world we live in The time I got paid the most in my life was when I told other people what to do and worked the least Wild

Yall should read marx and lenin

Posting this on such a large sub is probably some kind of fart in the wind, but work is not the real problem, its the way its exploited under capitalism. If you want to work in a meaningful and interesting way while having enough leisure and self-development time to live a happy and healthy life, instead of some bullshit job created to make more profit for a few billionaires, you should look up Marxist philosophy instead of wanting to abolish the idea of work itself.

Work-life balance is a complete joke when your boss is texting you pictures of himself and his spouse hiking all weekend while you the to disconnect

I’ve been trying my best not to work on weekends and to not look at emails, which is an enormous challenge for me because working 7 days a week has been my default mode (capitalism has done a great job to train into an obedient little pawn). This weekend, I promised myself I wouldn’t work but, of course, my boss has been texting me every single day sharing photos of himself and his spouse hiking. The photos are pretty (mostly very low quality, though) but I just don’t want to be reached out to at all and especially by my boss all weekend. It defeats the purpose of having a weekend if I have stare at your face every single day. Ugh. I have his texts muted, but they’re still show up as new messages (no alert or sounds, but still annoying) so it’s kinda hard not to open them…

Attempt at intimidation by manager in union setting.

Without much detail: During an informal conversation with my manager about the potential of applying for another position within the dept that would effectively double my hrs… he initiated a conversation that lead to intimidation about absenteeism (union protected PTO). While he usually manages early career beginners, I'm a union-raised child (go Mama!) with over 15 yrs experience in CYA management tactics. Any suggestions from the crowd before I begin action? (Left such a dirty taste in my mouth that I'm ready to put some effort in). *and just for the record, he remarked that my work ethics and performance have been remarked upon positively by many that I've worked with.

6 days of paid time off a year. Any more missed days = being fired. I’m an elementary school teacher at an at risk school. Our principal told us to lie if we test positive for Covid, and come in anyways

Teachers are supposed to quarantine for 5 days after a positive test because we are in close contact with so many children. Many of my students live with elderly grandparents. If I followed CDC guidelines, that would leave me with one emergency day before getting fired (which happened last year when i did quarantine).. The close contact also means I'll probably get the flu or an awful cold at some point. Obviously, I get vaccinated, plus boosters, every year. But I've still tested positive before with those precautions. So I guess I'll just lie. I learned my lesson. I've just never had direct instructions from a principal to come into work.

UAW enters their 3rd day on strike.

I just wanted to make a post in solidarity and and start a discussion on what can be done to support the strike. I'm not a huge fan of the wierd hybrid strategy of a partial walkout, but I'm not an expert so I'm interested to see what the big picture is. I'm also slightly amused (mostly annoyed) at what I perceived to be a blackout of info on the strike . Before Thursday it felt like it was plastered all over the place, now I have to actively look into it to stay in the loop. I would like to see more attention paid to the UAW strike, a media blackout is definitely not in the workers favor . There was a time this sub was quickly becoming an engine for change, what can we do to start that engine again and get some solidarity and attention made to…

Disabled person advocating for a chair at work. Could use some help with confronting manager.

Hey all! I could use some help, specifically with wording. Long story short, a past job years ago let me to me developing arthritis in my hip. As such, it hurts to stand in one spot for longer than an hour, and I honestly start feeling it at the half hour mark. After losing my nice office job due to budget cuts I have to work at a very red department store in order to make ends meet until I land a better job (trust me, I'm looking). It's been a few months and, while I tried to truck through it, I just have to sit otherwise I'm limping home. This place is more of convenient store size, so we have one HR Representative, a store manager, and some team leads. The first two are currently out on vacation, and my team leads are more than fine with me bringing…

Ghosted by job?

I found out yesterday that I had been removed from the work WhatsApp group, i messaged my boss and a few coworkers to ask if it was a mistake, no reply. I also asked my boss about how many holiday hours i still had to take and got no answer from them either. How to handle this situation? The place is run by a committee (only 1 person in this committee is “active” and acts like the boss) Edit: the only reason I can think of is telling my boss that I do not appreciate my timesheets being edited after the fact to say I worked less hours than what I did.
