so tired of hearing about how we're all supposed to dicksuck small business owners- who throughout the rest of this post i will be referring to as small business tyrants. all these fuckin people do is get tax breaks (that we pay for), underpay their workers and get away with it because “i can't afford to im a small business owner!!!!” and then they treat their workers like absolute fucking dog shit on top of that. the more intelligent ones will at least treat their workers nicely on a personal level so the obscene wealth extraction and profiteering isn't so apparent to their workers. how many of these people got tens of thousands upon tens of thousands of dollars in free money from the government during covid, yet they still can't pay their workers? they still can't give their workers sick pay. yeah they can afford vacations every 5 months…

Really… You’re surprised?
I (employee of 10 plus years) was told by my direct superior to write a very detailed list of all the systems I'm responsible for and how to care for them. This is done as he indicated that the company is doing poorly financially and they may be considering letting some folks go. So I comply with the request, but also start seeking other employment. I find a job and give notice. Then all of a sudden management starts acting like children. I'm repeatedly told that I'm making a mistake and that I shouldn't leave. This comes to a head in an encounter with the big boss who belittles me and tries to make me feel like a traitor. I didn't even make the full two weeks. Fortunately the new place takes me immediately. A week later I get a letter in the mail stating that I'm banned from the…
In 1930 the average salary in the US was just under $5k. This is around $90k when adjusted for inflation. The average worker doesn't earn $90k. They earn less than half of that! But, hey, at least we have Aquaman 2 coming out soon!
So last night at my job was a complete Shitshow, , half my usual people are on vacation and my only other line person called in sick I work at a VERY POPULAR Mexican restaurant down a road filled with restaurants and usually 2 to 3 people are on line and 2 are on window but today it was only me (a line person) 1 window person and an old man who does dishes and knows nothing else. And it's Saturday very busy day a shit ton of delivery orders and I'm the sole one who has to make all this the dish guy isn't much help on line honestly I do better without him. So I threaten my boss I might walk out because this is too much for me, but he doesn't get back to me until way after we closed saying something along the lines “if you…
Workplace Red Flags
I have had a rough couple years since switching from working with seniors to office administration. Here are what I would consider red flags from what I've been through -they seem annoyed when you have normal boundaries, like wanting to take your lunch alone or not wanting to attend work events in your personal time -they use their authority to gain a personal relationship with you, overshare and control your socialization with other staff members -the people above you act extremely unprofessionally but are promoted and praised regardless -you are punished for speaking up professionally against you higher ups, no matter how valid your concerns -they have a high turnover rate but use the same reason as to why employees no longer work there -people have either been there only a few months or many many years -you aren't asked a whole lot about your work history or skills in…
I received a good amount of response on my previous post where many of you told me that raising the minimum wage wouldn't necessarily fix the American economy and the cost of living crisis. A better fix which you people suggested was to tax the rich owner class. So I have 2 questions related to that 1) How much exactly should the rich be taxed? 2) What else is needed to fix the economy and the cost of living crisis?
Would this be petty of me?
Big rant here. Been working for a company in a tech job for a year. It's an entry level position. I previously had a manager who was great. I felt motivated, felt like I was learning, got good constructive feedback. Fast forward a few months and said manager left. I now have a manager who I can only describe as a one man clown show. Would it be petty of me when I finally leave to blame him for not wanting to stay? The senior management will ask me why I want to leave, and I want to say it's down to this new manager. But I'm 50/50 on it, considering it could make me look bad myself. The manager will micromanage me by calling me multiple times a day, to the point where I often lose an hour + of productivity each day because I'm constantly justifying my actions…
I don't know where to start, the job is fine, it's close to my house in walking distance, the pay is decent, I get freedom and flexibility to do my job how I want to. (Sometimes). The co workers are all shit but It's fine, I can ignore them enough throughout the shift but my biggest gripe is my boss. She only sees things in her perspective and never EVER in my eyes or anyone else's. Everything must absolutely be 100%, even the tiniest miniscule detail that the average person won't even see. And everything has to be done her way, even if the project can be done in 12 other more efficient ways, nope she won't accept that. It HAS TO BE her way and only her way. Which means I tend to mess up sometimes. She's also an extreme workaholic and she thinks everyone else should be like…
Sacked during PTO
I had multiple weeks of PTO approved months ago, then on day 2 of my time off II was informed that I’d been fired. They issued final payment up to the day I was laid off but not the remaining 2.5 weeks of PTO I was taking. Is this illegal? (This is in California).
I’ve (54f) been working as a contractor (1099) for the past year at a company that received government contracts. The recruiting agency hired me for full time work. Recently the budget for the project I was working on ran out of hours, so all of a sudden I had scrounge for tasks that only added up to about 20 hours total for the last two weeks. I tried to get some support from the recruiting agency but all my calls and emails have gone unanswered. I was able to talk to one person who asked what was going on and said she’d get back to me but never did. I filed for unemployment to supplement the gap, and I’m doing everything I can to find another job. It would be much simpler if they laid me off but according to the person who took on all extra duties for our…
