Is this a dealbreaker for anyone else? I applied for a maintenance job at a (public) railroad company and they require a good amount of time on call outside of your normal hours. Not sure how much exactly but they implied it was a lot. This includes nights, weekends, holidays. I know for some jobs like EMS, nurses, firefighters, that comes with the territory. But I just hate the idea of being on call. When I clock out, I want to be clocked out. The job pays well, but to me it's not worth it to sacrifice my personal life and be on call at odd hours. Is that unreasonable or foolish?
Month: September 2023
First: I need money, seriously. And I'm one year unemployed. So I feel worry, guilt, shame to deny any job. Even if it makes me sick physically and mentally. This week a company got in contact with me and offered me an interview. I did it. They wanted a test. I acceped it. And I had a burnout before starting the test. It was horrible. The job requires a task that irreversibly traumatized me and I can't do it anymore. It's not remote when it could be (I'm a content writer). I'm not 100% sure about my English writing (it requires). I can't take breakfast in any job, because to catch the bus and to be there at 8am, I have to wake up and leave home really early. I leave at 6:30am bus, and arrive home between 7:30 and 8 pm. That makes me sick. No, I cannot take…
As the title says I got an email from HR saying that they mistakenly added money to their 401k program that I am not enrolled in. They sent me a form to sign saying that they will deduct the $100 from my next paycheck because of their mistake. Does this make sense or okay ? It’s not that big of a deal for me but I feel like if it’s their fault why should I have to pay for it.
I work a major life insurance company in the call center and my company keeps hiring tons of overseas staff that keep quitting. Entire training classes are resigning. I call it poetic justice. The American companies have saturated overseas markets with call center jobs because of the low wages. But it appears that now there are so many U.S. based companies overseas that have placed their operations there to exploit the low cost labor that the offshore staff is now refusing to work for rock bottom wages. Especially when the job is very stressful.
Will you bite the hand that feeds you?
Just a little motivation to rise up on this lovely Friday!
I work for a manufacturing company and they’ve laid off over 1/4 of the staff these past couple months. And just started a wage freeze. (No raises). We’ve gone down 50% in production. But they have been repaving areas, putting up new buildings. Updating existing buildings. Bought 3 new semi-trucks. So we are all really confused. Are we going to shut down, we must not be because they are still putting money into the company. Some theories are, they are selling, they got money from grants that they need to show for, They are just using the down time to do what they’ve wanted to do. The company is privately owned and we are told everything is fine, people just aren’t buying the product but when they do everyone will be hired back. Anyone seen this happen. What’s the writing on the wall?
so i work at a totally generic kids stuffed animal store ( you know the one) and i am FINALLY putting in my notice today. i loved my job when i first started. helping kids have a fun experience was awesome. then, i got offered a promotion, which i accepted. what i DIDNT know is that it would lead to the rapid decline of my mental health. i have had to stay in the store until 10pm trying to get everything on the closing list done. i have been requested that i do the job of 3 different people in light of us not having enough managers. my hours have been cut. and most importantly, my manager has been CYBERSTALKING me. yep. followed me into a public discord server, and has been screenshotting anything negative i could possibly say about work and reporting me to our dm. and i know…
My horrible retail job hired a new manager, about #4 in 2 years, and he's fucking terrible. Hard core Trumper and Jan 6 supporter. Doesn't like black people, gays, trans people, doesn't respect women. I hate him and we all do. He harasses and fires black employees, treats the women much differently than the men, he's fucking terrible. We've all tried reporting him to the company and they all cover for him, and think he's a great person. The company has even been sued and they just settle quietly I guess and keep the culprits employed.
Toxic colleague
I have a very toxic colleague. He talks a lot behind people's backs and the union context makes him impossible to fire. He's the team coordinator but he doesn't really have any power over me. Having said that, recently he's been doing little tests on me (I don't know if I'm the only one) to see if I'm working when I'm “green” on teams, for exemple sometimes he send me a useless message very late at night as if he wanted to see what time I start the next day. It's very insidious, and not concrete enough for me to tell my boss. On the other hand, I wonder whether I'm just pretending nothing's happened and answering his tests as if I hadn't understood his purpose? Or do I confront him?
