Basically, my Team Leader wants to promote me from junior to senior, skipping the middle level but my supervisor is blocking that promotion and even says I shouldn't be promoted to the middle level. In the past I had a different TL who had conflicts with me because I am a person who challenges some decisions and tries to make people understand that some things don't make sense. That TL didn't like that and seems like he was complaining about me to the supervisor and from what my TL told me, he even wanted to fire me. Now, I have a new TL and she knows that I'm an important piece for the team and as she knows my value to the team and everything that got innovated because of me, she wants to promote me to senior. The supervisor says that she can't do it because of my past,…
Month: September 2023
Software engineer with degree from great university. In 2019 I was a junior engineer for a megacorp and the salary was actually good, I did 45h/week and I could handle it very good. After time and “promotions” I reached the mid-career title but actually my real pay for hour is lower because my actual position require 50 to 55 hours a week and inflation in my high cost of live area is insane (work from home revocated this year). Asked for a raise and company denied it for luck of budget (the company is valued several hundreds of billions). I applied to a lot of competitors but the salary change is minimal (5% increase in the best position I could get), new job offers have a way worse salary than before. I'm seriously thinking to go back to my old retail job for a while because I'm burned of working…
Just quit after my third shift
My coworkers were awesome. It’s a family owned Italian restaurant, I was hired as a server. I have just under two years of experience in this role. I have only ever served breakfast and this was my first time serving dinner. The owner was a rude, condescending asshole. First shift; owners brother tells me to shadow server. About an hour into the shift the owner shows up and calls me over. “What are you doing?” I’m shadowing Johny. “Why? You’re supposed to be a server. Don’t just stand there and watch. Jump in and serve.” Instantly contradicting orders from the two of them. So I jump in. I start clearing tables and running food. I run a couple of plates of fish. Owner calls me back over; “That was completely wrong. You didn’t put any garnish on the fish. You put the food down and just walk away? Why not…
Performane review – wrong answers only
I have a performance review on monday. My team is relying on me though the boss is not gonna admit that. I have no prospects in the company. What can I demand? Wrong answers only.
Manager avoiding Performance Review
I work at a startup, where technically I'm the only person in my department. I'm basically doing 3-4 roles that an analytics team does (which I've been praised for). It's been almost a year & I had requested for a performance review from my manager (in hopes that I get my bonus). Nothing has happened for over 2 months (I have a feeling that the company doesn't care enough for its' employees, they have no HR). I feel underpaid given the value that I'm providing to the company. Given that I've reminded them 3-4 times over the past 2 months, and nothing has happened, is there a way out of this besides forgetting about it and just switching companies? In that case, what would be a reasonable notice period (there is nothing in my contract).
So I started a new job a few weeks ago traveling and doing telecom work. The company I started with begged me to come to work for them because they needed the help. They had me come to work the first week, but after that they told me they were having a problem on the site, and we would have to hold back another week. It’s been a month now and every week their excuses change. I’m broke as a joke and having to pinch for Pennie’s. I need to at the very least draw unemployment until I can go back to work but I’m not sure if they’ll let me considering I haven’t technically been laid off or fired. I think is what got them was, my 2 buddies and I started with them all together, and they were going to have one of my buddies work somewhere else…
I don’t trust anyone I work for
They are all fake jerks. They treat anyone not in a supervisor role like trash. If you aren’t in the club you are really invisible. It didn’t used to be like this. People used to treat everyone with respect. I do not respect anyone I work for. Honestly the place would run better without them. They dont make decisions- they don’t make schedules. They only order us around when one of their friends needs something or if something goes wrong I put in applications every day but let’s face it. Every place is like this.
Demoted during all-hands meeting
After going above and beyond and working through the holy weekend, my boss demoted me on a zoom call in front of the whole team. I am not a confrontational person, but I unmuted and gave them a piece of my mind! That’s not fair or good to do! They were shocked and never saw that coming. After reaching out to a competitor and telling about my experience and interest in leaving, they offered me a better job than I had before. Completely remote with a live-able wage and employee communal garden space. I was demoted on zoom….I quit by email!
When I went to clock in my co worker said “Hey, did you put your two weeks in?” I said no, and he went on how they just got some guy to replace me. So I left, I was night shift and told my other coworkers working I'm out. I informed my boss that I am leaving and didn't appreciate him now at least informing me of his plans to let me go. Instead I would of been fired out of the blue and replaced like that. I feel bad quitting on my shift but, to me thats just disrespectful I've given my time and effort and even came in on days that doesn't fit with my schedule.
