BTW, I am atheist and firmly believe when I die, that's it. So I don't concern myself with any “afterlife”. Thanks.
Month: September 2023
I saw a response to a post just today that said something along the lines of “If I’m ever homeless I’m giving myself a month to put it together and then I’m killing my self”. It got me thinking, what would you consider the essentials? Your own place? A phone? A car? Would you be willing to stop eating out? Would you be willing to not to drink at a bar/club? Would you quit weed? Could you abide by a strict budget and continue to work without any rewards to show for it other than money in the bank?
(context is in the email) Dear [REDACTED], Thank you for your message and I am happy to respond. I appreciate the time you all spent reviewing my application. Usually, this is where I would say “putting it together was my pleasure.” However, as someone who has been applying to things, such as schools, fellowships, jobs, and so forth since 2011, and someone who has conducted over one hundred interviews himself, I must say that this has been the most disrespectful and inefficient application process I've been a part of. Asking applicants to watch 20 minutes of video and complete 3 essays and 5 interviews is inconsiderate of their time and pretentious and conceited of you about your position in the job market. Most interviewers had clearly not read the various essays you requested and asked redundant questions that caused me to repeat or paraphrase what I had put thought and…
First time posting ever, please be kind. So, my career is a joke. backstory about my job: I've been with my “company” for almost 7 years. I put quotation marks on the word company because technically all of us are under contract t and we don't have employer-employee relationship, to put it simply it's a dictatorship kind of management. My boss decides everything and the senior officers enact them. My boss suddenly decided to make me part-time effective September, our acting HR told me on August 31. So by the next day, I was half jobless. I was only required to go to work 3x a week. I took it with stride because I knew the senior officers did try to fight for me, but the boss' decision was final. I was hurt and disappointed, in a very intimate working space without much rules as ours, one thing I was…
Strike insurance?
I know there are rules against multi industry unions. Cause the Man wants to limit out power. But what about strike insurance? Could we all pay $10 into a fund that pays out when you have to strike? Also, Is there any place I can donate to the UAW?
Am I selfish because I called out?
Today I had to have an emergency visit the doctor because my knee was causing serious problems. I needed to see the doctor urgently and could barely walk (Turns out it was a mild strain…nothing serious) I called my manager and told her I couldn't come in. My coworker texted me saying they needed me urgently. I told them I can't. Now they're upset with me. Did I do the wrong thing?
Abusive Narcissistic Bosses
I remotely (we are in different states) helped a long time friend of mine open up a business of theirs and learned why you don’t mix business and friendship. When it was good it was great but I was basically on call 24/7, traveled across the country monthly to be in person to help, subjected to the wrath of her bad days and be the overall the punching bag for her and her husband. Including threatening physical violence. They even laughed while admitting they can’t treat the other employee the way they treat me because she will cry and I won’t. Not to mention putting up with and keeping my mouth shut with a few other unethical situations I’ve been subjected to. Anyways, They were expanding and had this extravagant party with friends and colleagues to celebrate. Towards the end of the night I got on the mic to make…
There was a poster here who said nursing homes should be able to ask for volunteers to do hands-on caregiving tasks and people should do it, unpaid. Let me ask you this. If you are an electrician, would you be okay for working for a company for free? What about if you are a plumber. Will you come fix my toilet for free? Or you're an accountant. Or a doctor. Would you work for free? So why is it fair for rehabs and nursing homes to ask for free work? Caregiving is work. It may feel unfair that part of your salary has to go to pay for caregiving for someone in your family, or you have to fork over a chunk of your salary to pay for daycare for your child. But those people need to be paid too. Even if you feel they don't deserve to have money…
No payment
I got laid-off 4 weeks ago and still haven't received my final check. What are my options? I want revenge.
On the Guardian is an article today. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/sep/16/ford-strike-picket-line-workers I was a bit surprised. It mentions wages of $16 or so to $24. I assume there is perhaps higher, but would not be shocked if there was lower. It is really despicable if corporations in something like the automotive industry, can't pay a living wage. Or should I say, won't. The GM boss mentioned in the article, cleared 29 million in 2022. I hope the American People start to carefully consider their buying choices and reject companies that don't fall in line with expectations. It's the only way these companies will feel pain, and be FORCED to change. Even if it means your fav car brand gets taken off your shopping list. Make a stand!
