Hello! I had a interview online that went well. The work is IT-related and i'm qualified. I was asked to bring in 2 references but they need to be a supervisor or a boss that i've worked with. I had a rough time this year and would really need this job to help my family. Do y'all have any ideas? I guess i could ask a friend to be my reference but they seem to really want a boss or a supervisor.

My manager is a heartless bastard
So I just started part time work at a café. I had a morning shift scheduled from 8am, was supposed to be my second day. But in the early morning my mum had a heart attack, and I had to call an ambulance and rush her to the hospital. I messaged the manager explaining the situation and how I’ll have to stay off work on that day. She became passive aggressive and said ‘but in the store there is only one person. You can go in after an hour.’ BRO I JUST TOLD YOU MY MUM HAD A HEART ATTACK???? AND she’s IN CRITICAL CONDITION I’m NOT GOING TO LEAVE HER ALONE. so I had to explain that, and I said I must prioritise her, and that I’m sorry for the stress caused. She responds with ‘I dont know what to say but I trust you for work and that…
Oh yeah, this will fix it
The whole “no one wants to work” thing has been really bothering me since people started using it as an excuse not to hire anyone. I couldn't figure out why they would do that. Then after reading the “ghost job listing” article, something hit me: Those people who have been saying that “no one wants to work” are PPP fraudsters who inflated the number of employees they had to get more money. However, as time goes on they may have to validate their claim with the IRS. If they say “this person worked for us and now they don't and we are losing money because we can't find a replacement” may justify their PPP loan as well as their “predicament”. They create a job listing and either set pay exceptionally low so no one will take the position or just don't respond at all. This also works for people who…
This is a long one but bear with me because I gotta air this out somewhere and I'm pretty sure this is the appropriate sub for work related rants and I'm gonna use my old account since my main account has a decent amount of identifying info. So I'm a house cleaner who makes commission, so not hourly paid. My boss's husband, who I don't think has a real title, is in charge with paying his wife's employees. We used to have direct deposit but then they wanted to switch banks since thier banker went somewhere else and they wanted that banker specifically. Not sure why that matters since all the bankers at the first bank will do the same level of quality but whatever. So some noncompete clause or something meant my employer couldn't use preferred banker for a few months, so they started giving us checks. A bit…

Health over job
Ok, this is kind of a rant, but an incident happened at work this week and I kind of need to vent a bit. Also, not in the U.S and English is my second language. We are currently one driver short at work for the past couple of days and probably for the next three weeks. And we're happy with that, because we would almost be a driver short forever. One of our drivers, let's call him Bob, was in an accident on his way to his last delivery; to be exact, he was the middle car on a three car crush. Immediately after the accident, he called our boss and told him about the accident. Boss told him (exact words): “Fuck the car. Are you ok? I want you to go to the hospital to be checked.” Bob said he was fine and he would. Thursday morning Bob comes…
A few months ago I applied looking for “customer service” role and I was hoping for an office position which was what the initial interview promised, but the second interview mentioned me ocassionally helping with the trucks. He was very vague by what he meant, but after getting hired I was immediately thrown on truck duties without my consent and they claimed I would be doing it for two weeks before I get into office training. I was completely caught off guard! Not to mention some the workers were transphobic. As the day went on I eventually had a mental health crisis due to the sheer amount of stress and was rushed to the emergency room. My boss naturally called me the next day out of concern, but still refused to let me work in the office. This may be the most dishonest company I ever worked in my life…
