Local business owner, back at it again.

One year before our expected raise period, our company of 200+/- employees was asked by the owners to read “Delivering Happiness” by Tony Hsieh (of Zappos fame). We had to buy the book ourselves, and have it read by the next company meeting in about 45 days (without being reimbursed- and we were told we couldn't share copies or notes) The book spoke about the importance of the experience over the cost, and looking at providing quality instead of always focusing on the bottom line- because in the end, just like Zappos, you too will make it big (wake up call, there are WAAAAAAAAAAAY more variables that determine success) The whole process of buying and reading this book was to teach the employees that we should value our work, our jobs and one another, as a family. And of course, that we wouldn't be getting our raises. Even at the…

We all know the system is flawed….
Do any of these co-op worker/owner things actually work? Where everyone in the company gets equal wages and the profits are all split evenly… I know places like this exist…. Do they actually make money? Are they competitive? Can this be the new business model?…
My sister's boss is a real ass hat. He switches her between salary and hourly all the time depending on which option will allow him to pay her less. So she's hourly if she comes in short on hours one week, and salary if she works over hours the next. Well she finally got him to agree to stop switching her back and forth a couple weeks ago, and she was so excited to finally get a nice paycheck this week because she'd worked so many hours. This fucking douche canoe capped her hours after she had already worked those hours. Capped her so she couldn't get paid for the hours she worked, and couldn't make any more than what the salary pay was. Essentially doing the exact same thing he agreed to stop doing. When she confronted him about it today, this moldy cat food casserole of a “man”…
Title. The UAW is striking against all 3 automakers for the first time in 88 years. Many other union-organizing efforts going on, too. Etc. Or have I just spent too much time on this sub? 🙂 Note that there are varying degrees of success, because the powers that be aren’t going to give up power just like that! But there seem to be more attempts, at least! Your thoughts?
