First I would like to start. I’m not the demographic that I expect to be on this sub. I’m 31 and work 2 jobs, im proud blue collar and generally conservative. I’ve heard people say I’m the hardest workin man they know…That being said, I believe in labor rights and fought for years to get a union apprenticeship, after unions were crushed by the last governor in my state. I work my ass off, on the side I deliver pizzas on weekends. I dream of an early retirement and opening up my own pizzeria. My last job was for a home remodeling company that served wealthy people in the area, $2 million plus houses generally, along with shithole rentals the owner and his family owned. Some of our clients included blackrock big shots and former nfl has beens. The company was terribly mismanaged, they had 8 field guys and only…

Caught driving company truck after hours
Long story short. I drive a company truck for my job, only to be driven to different jobs and boss pays for gas. He put an AirTag in the truck just in case it gets stolen (happens a lot here). We had a situation come up today where the client is lying saying we never showed up, so he checked the AirTag and of course I was at the skatepark in the truck. The tag is out on my car and my girlfriend is out of town for work (we usually go together in her car). I know I’m totally in the wrong and that it is my fault, just wanna know what you guys would tell your boss when he talks to you on Monday? Edit: this is not the first time I’ve done this, just the first time I’ve been caught. Not sure how far back the history…

I did my best to avoid accumulating a lot of student loan debt: I went to community college for my general ed, transferred to an in-state public university that offered the most grant money for myself, and majored in a field with relatively solid career opportunities (international political economics). However, coming from a middle class family, I couldn’t qualify for much financial grants. My parents also could not afford to contribute to my college expenses, though my mom did get a parent plus loan (which I am the one paying for). If I didn’t take out these loans, I would never been able to attend university. My parents were extremely against me getting a part time job in college (tho i did anyway for the first 2 years), and I could not afford a car to commute to jobs once transferring to a university. The worst part is that I…
1 year later, an update
https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/xkl6z3/friend_just_sent_me_this_from_his_job/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share I wanted to update folks on the delightful turn of events this stupid place has taken. Also, I was accused by the owner of making this post, even though it was one of my coworker's legendary socialist boyfriends. I just find that more funny shit icing on the cake. For some background, this is a nursery and garden center in a busy city. It's a very old and profitable company. The owner lives in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in a beach area in one of the most expensive cities in the US. I got hired last May on the condition that I get accommodation for my disability(I'm autistic but my list of accommodations is pretty short. I just need things like direct, clear feedback, and visual aids). I was good at my job, and they noticed I was also good at house plants, so they offered me a…
For me this really shows how big the Divide is, this is a person that had a successful family business handed to them. I honestly like the person because they are really nice overall, but honestly he's ignorant. They go against minimum wage and a huge overhaul and workers rights, because in their world everything is just fine, that don't even see us down here. This is just one of many posts but this one just caught me so off guard I wanted to share it
Basically, the company wanted me to do in-house training to work on a bunch of their heavier equipment, which would add a ton to my plate, as well as a huge amount of responsibility and liability (Like, if I fuck up and cause an accident I'm gone). Also a huge amount of hassle and bullshit tedious work I don't want to do. But zero pay increase. Just extra burdens. So I just said no. Might be having some conversations on Monday but fuck it, I'm not dealing with that shit.
So my old policy states we clock out for our 10 minute breaks, lunch I understand but this is the first job we did it for breaks as well. We got a new policy that says not to do that but should I talk to my boss about it? Should we be getting timed owed?
If the price of everything is going up, wouldn’t that mean I need to make more in order to afford it? Seriously the pandemic already sucked but the rising prices of everything and my pay being jack shit for a lot of these jobs is insane. I’ve started seeing an increase in people expressing their financial struggles. Times are so hard and it seems like nothing is being done about it. Is there a way we can petition higher wage or something? Wtf do we need to do where people are paid what they actually deserve?
I am black, to start off. My boss constantly makes jokes using the n word, and other racist rhetoric. What are my options ?
