Ik it's a bit of a rant but… You have to wake up early for class, sit in a dull lecture hall for an hour and a half about things you don't give a damn about, only to go onto the next lecture. Every class acts like it's the most important class, so they assign a ridiculous amounts of work and expect you to all self teach yourself on your own free time (because the professors didn't even teach some of the concepts in class). On top of that, you have to study for exams. Then professors/department policies act like we have all the damn time in the world to do this stuff and meet the deadlines. Alas, I have to waste my weekends, when I'm not working at my job, to do schoolwork. It feels like mental sweatshop labor. I'd take a day off to recharge but I can't…
Month: September 2023
Not me, but my friend. Title pretty much summed up the issue. She was laid off and her WFH job sent her position to india because they’re evil. She was promised 2 weeks severance ONLY if she stayed on until September and trained the team of 9 people to do her job. She did and was told not to interview until after her end date. Well she just got her severance and it was less than $200. She was making well I’ve that amount even after taxes. What recourse can she do to fight this?
Hi Reddit, I’m looking for some advice with regards to documenting workplace abuse and harassment. I’m a low level engineer working at a consulting firm and I’ve been bullied and abused mainly verbally by a few senior engineers on my team. I work in NYC and I was wondering what methods might be legal in documenting this type of abuse and harassment. Most of this happens verbally of course so there isn’t a paper trail I can go off of. I know recording or doing a voice recording is not legal so I’m looking for other ways I might be able to document this. I am looking to document this for HR but ultimately i want to leave this company. If anyone has advice on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
why can a company simply change its prices without having to ask the government to do so? but workers can not simply increase their wages if workers cant increase their wages without permission.. then companies should not be able to increase their prices without permission.

Letting go my job today
Allow me to rant a little bit. So I made a post here 2 months ago about available remote work in Africa and my boss messaged me with an offer of a data entry position. He works for a company in the US and so he delegated his duties to me cause I’m he has another job. The data entry has been okay since I learned the system and the type of data we have. First month was great when it came to pay and overtime. After the first month my boss came up with a new pay scheme that would slash my rate from 4$/hr to 2$/hr. I talked to him about it and wanted to quit but he adjusted to 2.75/hr. A week in he tells me that I would get paid 1 week after my supposed “pay day”. Meaning after every 3 weeks I get 2 weeks…
should I quit right after I got my sick day approved same day or should I wait til EOD monday? Lol
I live just outside the Seattle area, which has an extremely high cost of living. Our minimum wage is $15.74. I have applied to about 100+ jobs in a month and applied here out of desperation since it’s down the street from me. After doing the initial phone interview which I did alright in, they told me there were 5 additional rounds of interviews to get through!!!!! The job has no benefits and they mentioned it has high turnover and they’ve had a hard time trying to fill it as they really want a “drama free workplace”. Can’t imagine why… I understand doing 2 rounds of interview but if you’re doing more than that, you better be at least offering a decent wage and benefits. No job is important enough to justify 6 rounds of interviews let alone one barely above minimum wage.
Wasted time.
I have applied for WFH job here in Europe, but it's US company. That means that I will have to work night only and sometimes weekends, but no more than 40 hours a week. They wrote bunch of benefits, 30 days PTO and stuff that are normal in Europe. I was like: “Why not?! When I care, my English is good. I am patient (from time to time) and it could work for some time”. It's Customer Support and I had my doubts, but salary is 2k a month after tax and it's above where I live. First interview – easy, next one in a week. Second interview – some test and then manager + HR, also passed. Third and last interview today – similar crew, but shocking info. Only after weeks of all this and after I had to refuse other job opportunities, they told me next: “Our company…
8 years ago I was working in a preschool, a big national franchise. My mother runs a preschool and saw an ad in a teacher magazine encouraging people to buy their own franchise. My mom sent me the ad and there was my boss and his wife saying “we own two schools and make $400,00 a year” Meanwhile I had learned that families were paying $1,800-1,500 depending on the age of the kid. And wouldn’t you know it the staff was making between 2,000 and 2,800 a month. This is one of the highest cost of living areas in the US. Several teachers used food stamps and the only ones not severely struggling were those with higher earning spouses. This man was taking his family on annual trips to Whistler while his staff had to choose between gas and groceries.
